Most powerful weapon skill to end chain?

#1tentacle2000Posted 8/25/2010 7:14:54 AM
What is the most powerful non-tension weapon skill to use to finish off a x4 chain (x2 damage)?

Do MP-heavy skills like the Gigagash, something Chopper (for Axe) or the claw ultimate (forgot name) do more?

I once finished a claw ultimate at around 1700 buffed.
But without tension, are any of these even comparable to UFB+Falson Slash?
I notice that these ultimate skill base damage is somewhat fixed, so not sure if there's a limit on their damage (I'm assuming 9999, which would potentially suggest the last person in a 4x chain use a skill other than Falcon).

Thoughts?

Whopper Chopper, Gigagash, etc are pretty much worthless in that regard. They max out at 1999 damage. Multi-hit skills will cap at 1999 per hit, so they're a little bit better. But, Falcon Slash still reigns supreme. Not only can you hit 1999 with 4 hits, but you can also combo it. (Unlike Fan Dango, Twin Dragon Lash, etc. )

Clap Trap is another good skill for comboing, because it has no damage limit. But without tension, Falcon Slash is better. You need 50-100 tension and a X2 multiplier for Clap Trap to surpass it.

Without tension, is it even possible to reach 1999x4 using the Falcon combo with only Chainx4?

Using the damage calc, at around 700 atk power (600 Glad + max Sword tree + UFB) and assuming 400 defence on the enemy (most boss have something higher),
You get 250 base damage.
x2 for Chain
x3 for UBB+Falcon Slash
= 250x6 = 1500

A good whip with Twin Dragon will be:
Atk = 600 + 60 max tree + 140 best whip = 800
Def = 400
Base = 300

x2 for Chain
x2.5 for Twin Dragon
= 1500

There are alternatives, just maybe not so effective and easy to get...
Or maybe there's something wrong with my math?

Well, there's also the fact that all of the attacks have to be the same, i.e. everyone uses normal attack, everyone uses falcon slash, etc. So you can't just "end the chain" with a different attack and still expect the 2x bonus. So unless EVERYONE is using Hand of God, there's no way to get a 2x combo for it.

Not every attack can be chained either. They have to be single target attacks only, and this includes spells.

As in, Gigaslash will not chain, nor will Multihit. Most skills and spells will not chain.

the only spells that will chain are single target spells like the zam series or the frizz series. I've use kaboomle x2 on bosses with twocus pocus when raising low level legacies and it won't chain for kaboomle, but it will for kazammle

You can chain Crack from the Crack line. Not a powerful spell, but you do get one ice spell to chain.

I forget, can you chain Magic Burst?

No. It's a target all spell. Also I watched a video where some one nuked Mortamor with 4 MB in a row and no chain, so I'm not pulling this one outa my behind >_>

The biggest damage you can do in a single hit is from Double Edged Slash, i believe.

With 50 tension, fully buffed, I've hit that for about 3.5k, and that was without a chain. With the chain and the extra tension, it could be possible to hit 9999 (or more, if you can), especially with max stats.

Downside is your guy gets owned by doing so :D

Honestly, I wish the whole "Chain Attack" mechanic were not added. Why would SE want to encourage homogenous teams? Blech.
