ChronoAcePosted 6/30/2012 4:11:17 PM | I know I will probably be attacked by rabid fanboys but I just wanted to get your guys opinion. How long do you think the majority will play this game for? I am thinking 1-2 months before boredom sets in, which is still very good for a $60 price tag and no monthly sub fee. |
santos el helperPosted 6/30/2012 4:12:49 PM | This is based on what...wild speculation? --- Come on, Cohaagen, you got what you want. Give these people air! |
TheWarhammeronlPosted 6/30/2012 4:21:16 PM | Of course you will be attacked by "rabid fanboys"
You pretty much just said "The game will be dead in 2 months"
There has never been a positive discussion when someone asks "How long will an MMO last?"

Xeeh_BitzPosted 6/30/2012 4:28:09 PM | No end game gear grind, no raids, nothing to do. Who wants to go back and repeat the same DEs over? Who wants to level a character back up and repeat the same DEs, having to explore the same areas you already explored. It has PVP, but with nothing to grind for, it'll be like any multiplayer game after a couple months.
Someone people will want to do everything, but not everyone enjoys doing that especially when it's rather boring. This game is setup more like a single player RPG than an MMO, it does not offer things to keep people playing.
Not to mention, how are they going to handle the zones after launch, after people get past them and some level slower, chances are if you start a character later on, you're going to be alone most of the trip to 80, unless they offer some type of LFG cross-server tool that WoW offers, that's not very fun.. especially repeating the same content over again. --- .... |

These are my thoughts exactly. Like I said, there is nothing wrong with this game "dying" in 2 months. $60 for 2 months of entertainment is a steal IMO. |
Duke DarkwoodPosted 6/30/2012 4:36:23 PM | I played Guild Wars 1 for 72 months - six full years - without taking any breaks. In recent months, it's finally started to slow down, as I have done almost every goal I set out to, but I'm not finished quite yet.
If I can get just ONE year like this out of Guild Wars 2, then it's money well spent indeed. (And I fully expect to get more than just that one.)
And Xeeh? Some of us grew up on single-player RPGs. GW1's PvE experience is what drew me to that game to begin with, and what kept me hooked on it.
Besides. Does anyone here REALLY think they'll leave the game with what it has at release? You saw the zone maps. Entire chunks of GW1 lands that aren't marked - the Maguuma Wastes, the Crystal Desert, and the Southern Shiverpeaks, just to name a few. Not to mention that Zhaitan is only one of FOUR elder dragons that are confirmed to be active in Tyria.
This game's going to be around a while. --- "As the good archmage often admonishes me, I ought not to let my mind wander, as it's too small to go off by itself." -Danilo Thann |
yakkacruzPosted 6/30/2012 4:37:14 PM | SPOILERS Guild Wars 1 has a stable playerbase after 7 years and that's without the magnitude of replayability GW2 offers --- . . . I'm a genius, not an engineer! - Aramis |

Also, I asked when the majority aka CoD casuals would be leaving this game. I know the hardcores will stick around no matter what. I actually want this game to succeed and be playable past 2 months but I am just not seeing it. Is there some big endgame/replay value thing I missed? |
TaijouroukunPosted 6/30/2012 4:46:10 PM | it will die in exactly 1 1/2 month as you predicted. there, you are correct.

A_CavemanPosted 6/30/2012 4:48:40 PM | PvE- Few months until the expansion.
PvP and WvW- multiple years.
No game's PVE has years worth of value on it's own, and this includes WoW and all it's raids. When was the last time you heard someone talk about raiding as a positive experience? I have dozens of friends who still play WoW, and they treat raiding like a monotonous job, because any PVE content becomes repetitive after a few times, leaving the only entertainment value to be had in the social aspect of the game.
Dynamic events are only dynamic the first few times. PVP is always dynamic. |
