I suppose that kills the rumors about the "internal build", it can be almost certain that if the CPU bound thing isn't fixed on the last beta event it is safe to assume that it will be like this on release....
I guess I'll be canceling my pre-order unless I can confirm the game optimizing was fixed when the game ships... What's the point of having a beast video card if it's going to be sitting with minimal use, with plenty of FPS drops a hicups. |
EternalNetherPosted 7/6/2012 10:29:24 PM | This is the first I'm hearing of it running mainly on the CPU....I think....I missed BWE2 so it's been a long time since I paid attention. Optimization didn't seem too bad for me. I was running it on max at 60 FPS with an i5 2500 Sandy Bridge and a GTX 460.
Honestly though if there's a major problem like this I would assume it'll be fixed by launch. Wasn't there also something about the ultra graphic settings not being available yet or something? That it only went as high as medium? |
Devasmet (Topic Creator) Posted 7/6/2012 10:31:19 PM | A lot of people with high end rigs posted about the same issue when I was searching for a solution to the FPS drops and they always awnsered along the lines of...
"The game is currently CPU bound, it's intended while optimizing is still being worked on"
Ive heard this bullcrap so many times before that "performance issues" will be fixed on release and never gets done that I just no longer believe it. |

silent striker 29Posted 7/6/2012 10:36:11 PM | In BWE1 it used 1 core and like 20% of my GPU. In BWE2 it used 2 and 50-60% of my GPU. Got about 20 better fps overall.
Same client. Who knows what will happen later... |

I don't doubt you or anything but if there's a program or something that lets you find out I'd love to know what it is. It could come in handy. I know I can use my task manager to see CPU usage and the like. But how can you tell how many cores are being utilized by a particular game/program? |
NoGaRdKniGhtPosted 7/6/2012 10:38:30 PM | GW2 is using the same client to save beta testers time in having to redownload assets that are going to be in the final game anyway.
How exactly does this somehow equate to the game not being optimized on release? Especially considering that there were significant performance improvements from BWE1 to BWE2 using the same exact client? |

GW2 is really the only process I have running that's using a lot of the CPU. Task manager lets you see how much of each core is being used. For GPU and fps I use MSI afterburner. |

Xeeh_BitzPosted 7/6/2012 10:56:29 PM | The client is nothing more than a downloader and launcher. Of course you would use the same one, the client has absolute nothing to do with the actual game other than downloading updates and launching the actual game --- Bacon |
