Too many players have full exotic already so they're adding a new tier that's better.

New item tier between legendary and exotic

Slightly better stats than exotics, also folds exotic gem upgrades into the main stats

Doesn't have an upgrade slot, has an "infusion slot" instead which is used for new upgrade things

Patch introduces Ascended rings and backs, but full gear sets are coming

All existing Legendaries will be bumped up to Ascended stats (thus they will outgear normal Exotic weapons)

Wow, it's even worse than I expected. It's not just a new tier grind, it's a content gate to boot.

Seriously? Have they not been watching other MMOs for the past 10 years? NO ONE LIKES GEAR GATES. This is Gear Score and LoTRO Radiance all over again.

Not as bad as I thought. The new gear basically only helps in the new content. Outside of it, exotics are just as good. The whole infusion thing is only for agony resistance, which won't be anywhere but the new dungeons.
