Why is there a passive that buffs healing boundaries when you don't even have one of those active in the deck?

Not sure. I'll have to take a look.

Having said that, you can use passives from other weapons that you don't even equip.

Like pistol (or was it shotgun) has a passive that increases chances for critical hits for any weapon. Most of the passives work that way.

So don't just look at the abilities in the two weapons choices, but see if there are passives from the other weapons that you can use, too.

I was under the impression that the passives won't work unless the weapon is equipped. Not that it necessarily has to be the weapon you are using, but in one of the two weapon slots. I must be wrong?

All passives that don't affect a particular skill work with any gear loadout. So I can have a shotgun/blade equipped build, and still use passives from fists or blood, or wherever.
