While I know most people will not read this first and will instead find out after, hopefully this reaches people who have not purchased SC2 yet. Some info you will want to know:

1. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: YOU ARE STUCK WITH THE NAME YOU PICK FOREVER. YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE IT AS OF RIGHT NOW. THERE IS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER WHEN PICKING YOUR NAME THAT IT IS PERMANENT. So be careful what you name yourself. When it asks for your "character profile", it is asking you to pick your permanent battle.net name. I repeat, there is currently no way to change this and blizzard has not voiced any intention to implement such a feature(and if they do it may require a fee).

2. Names are NOT unique. So trying to claim a unique name like "JimRaynor" is pointless, as there can be hundreds of other "JimRaynor" account names. What separates you is your character code. IE if you want a friend to add you, you tell them your name and character code so they can add you and not mix you up with other people with the same name.

3. You cannot create more than one account, rename your current account, or delete your account and create a new one. You are stuck with what you pick. The only way you could get a new name is by buying another copy of SC2.

I'm just a guy who picked an entirely generic name because I just wanted to get to playing the single player campaign quickly and I simply thought it was asking for a profile name for the single player campaign(as it does in SC1). There is no warning whatsoever, and the way it asks you for the name is extremely vague. So please, don't make the mistake I did and be careful picking what name you're stuck with.

Thank you for the warning. I will keep it in mind when I get around to playing it, assuming my computer can run it at all.

I did pass your warning to a friend who's getting it sooner.

They should ban all topics that start with "Am I the only one who...?" No, you are never the only person. You are NOT a unique snowflake. =p

It says Character Name, not Character Profile, so it's even trickier. -_-

Wait you're stuck with a single name for the single-player campaign? What if my family wants to play? That's lame.

Peace!

Ah my bad, but yes that's pretty vague for a permanent unchangeable account name.
