The following information was taken from: http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/07/28/blizzard-confirms-starcraft-ii-overheating-bug.aspx "Anyone else have StarCraft II try to melt their hardware? Blizzard admits that it's a known issue and has a fix for you. Apparently, the game's menu screens aren't framerate-limited. This means that when there's nothing else going on, your graphics hardware renders the bejeezus out of those screens, causing nasty overheating problems. The fix is easy, requiring players to add the following lines to your "Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt" file: frameratecapglue=30 frameratecap=60 Good to know. Personally I would have appreciated a heads-up before my video card fried, but maybe this can save someone else from the hassle I've been dealing with since yesterday afternoon." interesting --- Q: How can you tell when I'm trolling? A: I've made a post. "Look at me! I'm quoting myself! Aren't I cool?" ~ Me
I'm guessing this was around in beta too. If that is the case, that explains why my friend's graphics card died after playing SC2 for a week. --- Currently Playing: League of Legends, Red Dead Redemption, Super Mario Galaxy 2, ModNation Racers, Monster Hunter Tri
There is no "Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt" file
Wow, looks like a pretty serious bug. Will this pretty much happen to everyone after a certain amount of time if they don't add those lines? --- By the second explosion, most of the clowns had already fled the scene
From: bloodling | #004 funny, because I found one. --- Q: How can you tell when I'm trolling? A: I've made a post. "Look at me! I'm quoting myself! Aren't I cool?" ~ Me
Oh it's in My documents... my bad
noob haha :P jk --- DDR, I notice your karma is 567. That 5+6+7= 18. 18 plus your IQ is 19. There were 19 hijackers on 911. You are a terrorist. - whythefat
I'm just going to write a little sumpin' sumpin' so's I can save this to my topics list... but also, wouldn't an easy way to get around this be to just not let the menu stay on your screen? --- When man invented fire, he didn’t say, 'hey, let’s cook', he said, 'great, now we can see naked bottoms in the dark.' - Steve, from 'Coupling'
So pretty much if you hanging out all day on the main menu and NOT playing the game like i figured most people would be doing once they ran it, then your gonna have problems. --- Karma will come to your house and wreck up the place. ------TimEnchanter |
