The area around the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and Capitol building is very accurate. Granted, its to a smaller scale, but not by much. I intend to check out Arlington soon to see if that is accurate. --- L, did you know...

Tenpenny Tower is a real place (White House) and Tenpenny himself is based on Condoleeza Rice.
Solusx2Posted 11/15/2008 7:18:23 PM
Yes Tenpenny tower is there IRL. Herbert Dash Wood is actually from my family linege, because everyone in the town is based on someone in present time.

wow. no Tenpenny tower is NOT the White House, and Tenpenny is NOT Condolezza Rice. --- L, did you know...

Some of it is, some of it isn't.
The names of many of the metro stations are real, for instance. Most (the Anchorage Monument obviously isn't real, and it's missing the Vietnam Wall for obvious divergent-history reasons) monuments are pretty close to their real life counterparts. --- "Embrace eternity!" - Liara T'Soni, Mass Effect XBL Gamertag: tdpatriots12

I will crap myself if they got the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier right. that would make going to Arlington worth it for me. --- L, did you know...

no its based on 1950's DC....Our Timeline and the Fallout timeline split in the 1950's
so Fallout is an alternate reality to ours

This game has origins in the 1950s, because that is where the "split" in time occurs. This is a complicated way of saying the history from 1950 til today did not occur. Instead, starting in the 1950s, this version of DC grew out of a different progression of history from 1950 until the year 2077 when nuclear war broke out due to escalating conflict between China and America. The current year in Fallout is 2277, 200 years after nuclear war.
So DC in this game is not really based on 1950s Washington, DC, although the only architecture/landmarks that we can recognize originate from that point or earlier. DC in Fallout is a prediction of what DC would look like with more rapid technological progression from the 1950s to 2077, followed by nuclear war, followed by 200 years of damage control. Hopefully that makes sense.
