Home Decoration Designs

Trolling Disclaimer
This is a hate-free topic. If you have nothing nice to say, don't waste your time here. If you do take the time to let us know you don't like what we do, it is either Trolling or Flaming.

Trolling: Intending solely to annoy and/or offend other posters.

Flaming: Clear insults of other board users.

Also, if you are considering reporting this topic as Off-Topic because you do not personally like it, you need to understand that the rules for such are Off-Topic Postings: On a board for a particular game or system, topics should always be related to that game or system in some manner. Being so, let me explain that this topic is about how some of us choose to spend some of our time playing this game. Some of us spend a lot of time doing this. And just because you don't get an Achievement for decorating it doesn't mean that it isn't a part of the game. Otherwise they wouldn't have given us so much space to fill, the ability to precisely place items, and they wouldn't have described certain in-game items as being for decoration (i.e. the Garden Gnome. More exampled listed below.) If you have any doubt, please reference the official Fallout wiki and read everything they have about decorating and decorations before you abuse the moderation system of this site. For instance:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Grab
The grab ability is the in game ability to move around objects. This can be used to make items easier to steal, move a corpse so you can eat it or to move things around for aesthetic reasons (i.e. decorating your house).

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mutilated_Skull
Mutilated Skull is an item in Fallout 3, useful only as Rock-It Launcher ammunition or for decorating one's home, if you are interested in sprucing up your home/apartment.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Teddy_Bear
The Teddy Bear is a child's toy used for playing and by adults for collecting and decorating their homes.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/A_Quick_Fix
(spoiler-free paraphrasing:) Gum Drops are not sold and must be stolen. They're great for decorating your house/apartment.

I could go on and on (there are well over 500 posts about it), but that's enough to help you understand that home decorating was very intentionally a part of this game.

If you see anyone Trolling or Flaming in this topic do not interact with them directly. I highly suggest you follow the rules of this site and report them to a moderator. The more people that report them, the more the moderators will listen. Let them do their job and handle that type of people appropriately.

End Trolling Disclaimer

I detest having to take the time to state the above. I apologize to those who are not trolls, but it seemed necessary to state such simple things on this board because of my previous interactions with people like that.

And now, finally, to the actual topic.

Home decorating. There are home decoration items and even several decoration Themes you can purchase from local retailers, but there's so much more to do on our own. So much empty space. Some people pile up pre-war money and armor, some go all out and fill every empty shelf with knick-knacks. Whichever end of the spectrum you're on, you're welcome here if you're friendly to everyone else.

The aim of this topic is for us to get ideas from each other, share tips about decorating, and to eventually maybe even have a little contest for the best designs. I think it would be great if we shared pics of our places.

(Topic introduction continued in next comment due to space limits used on the disclaimer.)

This week I will be recording and posting a video to help people with placing objects, it can be a little tricky at times and seeing someone actually doing it may help a lot. And I'll be writing up some tips on moving things as well. Anything you have to add would be great.

Currently, I only have the Megaton shack, but I'm going to start another game to get the Tenpenny Tower suit so I can start decorating that too.

Interesting decoration fact:
Did you know that there is a useful mailbox in Springvale you can decorate!?
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Springvale
Unlike either of the two possible player homes, (which require the player to pass through multiple loading-screens), Springvale offers a map spawning point directly in front of storage (a mailbox). The mailbox won't erase your items or run out of room. Decorating it is also an option, this also makes it easier to find.

This is an ongoing topic. Feel free to add anything relative you wish to say. The floor has been swept and waxed and is now open.

Before you mark me for trolling, yes. I do decorate my place. Usually with things I find that stand out or are special to me. Like over/udersized items, or hard to reach items.

I actually lol'd. *picks you up and dusts off your shoulders* What's that? A fragment of bone in your hair? Ah, you must've already been upstairs to the special room. ;) Tell me about these oversized items a little so I can look them up. I know I've heard something about an oversized bear, but I've not seen them yet.

Thank you for summarising the TOS.

Well, there are all sorts. In some satellite array you can get a whole bunch of tiny gnomes and wine bottles. And I think there are some huge chessboards.... and I found a really little hammer in the Temple of the Union.

You can read up about 'em at the Wiki, but I know there are WAY more out there then what they have listed. You should also look for pots. Not metal cooking pots, but just flat out "pots". I've only found two in the whole game.
