Is this an open world sandbox?

How big is the game world? I'm guessing that you're confined to a large campus and maybe a few neighborhoods. Can you go anywhere you want whenever you want? Are there vehicles/bikes? What types of fun side-missions are there? Can you ignore the main storyline and RP in the world for as long as you want? Thanks for any insight you can give me.

How big is the game world?

Not too big in comparison to other R* worlds, but it doesn't appear small.
Can you go anywhere you want whenever you want?

After the first chapter you can explore (most) of the surrounding town. The rest opens up as the story progresses.
Are there vehicles/bikes?

Skateboards/bikes
Can you ignore the main storyline and RP in the world for as long as you want?

There's no real ways to RP in this IMO, except going to every one of your classes (which no one does)

Thanks for the help and answering my questions. Why does no one go to all of the classes? Is it timed and therefore impossible to do, or is it too boring and long to sit through them, or is there no point in attending them when you could otherwise be doing other things that are more fun?

Yep

Sometimes the classes are fun, and give alright bonuses, but they're not required and are too time restricting.

I started playing the game. The last mission I did was to slingshot some footballers. After that I've spent 3 days going to classes and getting to bed on time (after staying out 2 nights to get an achievement, I hid in the secret place through the bus). I think I may be able to max the classes and do several other things before taking on another mission. After looking at the stats pages, this game seems like it can be really long. That's great. After I master my classes I'll explore to find the rest of the collectables I can locate, then I'll do the next mission.

I'm loving the game but one thing that's bothering me is the size of the main character's head. It's slightly too big for his body. It looks like a 26 year old face on a 16 year old kid. Does the main character's body get bigger as the game progresses? Does he, grow up? Otherwise, he looks like a midget.

Nope, Jimmy stays the same size. They made the head look older so gamers could still relate to the GTA characters. Poor choice though, shorter then half the people in the game (probably more).

The head size and age was indeed a very poor choice on their part. Once I reached Chapter 2 I found some clothing/hat choices that make him look much better. But that head looked really bad for the first part of the game.
