And cue the electric guitar and wall bouncing because most video games songs don't have legs to be genuinely extended.

Though have been inspired to combine this with the original and see if I can get anything out of it. They might contrast too much.

I've heard it before. I can't really explain why because I'm utterly terribly at describing music, but something about it just sound right. I don't particularly like it, especially in comparison to the original.

I know the feeling. About the musical incompetency.

The one word that comes to my mind is "personal". It's not trying to be orchestral metal, more like a character theme, particularly that first riff. Calling it that, Sakuraba probably should have arranged it more like a character theme rather than the crazy divergences that come later.

this honestly sounds really awesome. i'm not as musically competent as my friends, but whenever i hear electric guitar as like battle music. omg thats sounds great.

i think the original sounds great now that i listen back to it too. i love going back to these games and noticing these things i didnt on my first time.

It's using way less drums (which was basically as fast as snare-drum rolls) and give solo sections. And get rid of the.. i forgot the name, but overall this has just cleaner melody.I have to say it feels a bit closer to 'regular battle theme' (maybe a boss-battle) than a final boss theme now.
...would be fitting as Richter's personal battle theme maybe? lol

The mixing is pretty muted and it doesn't give the guitars the energy they need to drive the piece. The sequencing is also pretty mechanical -- the rhythm is too rigid, and the articulations don't vary. It's not bad at all, but neither is it a proficient level of production.

I expect you'll all like this arrangement of "I'll Go", though. :)

EDIT: Wait, I missed that Sakuraba actually arranged this version, too. I doubt he was involved in production, but still....that means this was a professionally-produced commercial product. I still think it's pretty sub-par for commercial standards... Huh.
