I'm sure there will be no English version unless SEGA (Japan) re-releases the game in the future with Trophy support. I'm pretty sure that's a big part of the reason why they will not localize it. They would need to add a lot of code to the game to add Trophy support in comparison to just swapping out text or removing the theme song and deactivating parts of existing code like they did for 3 and 4.

Anyway, there is a lot of spoken stuff. Have you played Ryûga gotoku / Yakuza 3 or 4? It's comparable to those. Unfortunately, if you can't read Japanese, it's also comparable to those in that there is also an awful lot of text—actually, way more text than spoken dialogue.

ive only played yakuza 1-4 with subtitles so i was kinda thinking that by playing the game in japanese only that i wouldn't be able to follow the plot.

The FAQ provided by ThePatrick for Kenzan does shed light on the plot, though not completely but more than enough for you to 'follow' what's going on.

Oblivion game of the year edition for PS3 doesn't have trophy support so it shouldn't be an issue
