Please Sticky : Help with startup/punkbuster/black screen problems

#1paullywogPosted 11/11/2008 5:23:34 PM

It seems like a lot of people here are having trouble getting this game to run as of a day after release. I'm getting tired of seeing a ton of threads about the same things, so here we go.

First, download the 1.1 patch.

Punkbuster Problems: Download PBSetup.exe and find the game path, add game, and update. Allow punkbuster and World at War through your firewall(s).

Black Screen Problems: Update Directx 9 from Microsoft's Web Site. If this doesn't work, right click the exe (at least in vista) to run as an administrator. Lastly, alt tab out of the game to the desktop, and go back into the game.

I'll update this as I find out more.

If you have the "unhandled exception caught" problem, try this:

If you're running Vista go to control panel, hardware and sound, click on sound, double click on "speakers", then Advanced tab and set default format to 24 bit, 48000 Hz (studio quality) - Thanks to deadblindmice

Also make sure you have the d3dx9_37.dll.

It worked for me.

The ports that Call of Duty World at War uses are ports 28930 - 28960

***Oh my god that worked! How the Hell did he (deadblindmice) figure that out?? The game works like a charm now, when before it kept crashing on startup.
