Loyalty missions and the IFF

I don't know why people gave you lies about how to get this right as I had the same wonder when I was playing a day ago.

Where did anyone lie to him?

You can do two missions before the abduction triggers as long as one is Legion's loyalty mission; that one should be done last. The only point I'm not clear on is whether the other mission has to be Tali's loyalty mission, or whether it could be any mission. Since the other mission he was talking about doing was Tali's loyalty mission anyway, it didn't seem like I had to press that point.

At any rate, he's fine as long as he doesn't use Legion (or Tali, if she's still unloyal) for anything during the SM, and then he can do the loyalty mission(s) afterward (which I'd advise if he's going to play ME3).

Well I would rather do everything before the "point of no return" to be on the safe side as waiting so long to do Tali's loyalty is kind of dumb when you could easily get it done long before the "Reaper IFF".

That is a safe way to do it, true. However, some people want to see the extra dialogues and reactions you get when you take Legion on Tali's loyalty mission, so whenever the question is asked on this board, most people who answer try to make a point of mentioning how this can be accomplished.

Damn it, thought that if I didn't pick Legion for anything during the suicide mission he would still survive even without having his loyalty. But nope, he's dead.

Beat the final area 3 times now and still can't get Legion to not die, getting so annoyed.

Unless you have a ton of disloyal squad members, you shouldn't have a problem keeping everyone alive. If Grunt, Zaeed, and Garrus are loyal and left to hold the line, you can keep at least two disloyal squad members alive no matter who you use for the escort or final battle.

That's what I hear, but it doesn't seem to be working. Sent Garrus to escort, Legion is the only disloyal. Yet whoever I bring to final mission, Legion dies. I've now done this 9 times. Perhaps on lunch I'll try from earlier and send Mordin on escort instead... Assuming I still have my heating vent save...

if you send Garrus to Escort than he's not left to hold the line. Mordin, Jack, Kasumi, Tali, use one of those to Escort the crew and two of those for the Final Boss.

Got it, only took me 14 tries. Was starting to think people were just messing with me, but ya'll weren't, so thanks for the advice.

It can be any mission. If you have any loyalty missions left (other than Legion's), then you must do another mission (doesn't have to be a loyalty) before Legion will offer his own.

If you have no loyalty missions left, then EDI will announce the IFF is almost ready if you go to the CIC. Using the Galaxy map at this point triggers the abduction.

However, in this case, you can unlock Legion's loyalty mission right away if you talk to him right after recruiting him. This will delay the abduction (even if EDI already announced the IFF was almost ready; she will stop doing so until you do Legion's mission, or any two missions, whichever comes first).

This means you can take Legion on any mission (even a non-loyalty one, like Overlord for example) before Legion's loyalty mission, and still save everyone.
