Went and completed missions, getting as much renegade as possible, checking back after each one to see if it would go through.

4.5 bars

is where the game finally let me.

At the point of my recruiting her, I had every mission done save for some side quests, the IFF and endgame. So, basically, these are the values for her "latest possible" recruitment. I've also done Shadow Broker and Kasumi/Zaeed DLC's.

I played the game getting primarily renegade but straying every now and then. Just wanted to share, because this is probably the hardest check in the game and I know it was a throat twister for me.

I have recruited Morinth with only 2 bars of Renegade filled (probably had a file with less but I know for certain that number is correct), the bars mean nothing they are fluff, an aesthetic piece only.

The thing that actually determines being able to get a respective Charm or Intimidate Check is the ratio of your current Paragon or Renegade points to the total amount of Paragon or Renegade points available at that point in the game.

If this is the case, why do you think I was able to recruit her after doing several more missions? Do you think that these uncompleted missions were counted in my total "available" renegade tally, counting against me even though I hadn't initiated them, simply because I could have initiated them?

Yes, that is exactly how the system works. Whether or not something is initiated doesn't matter. What matters is if you landed on the planet where you can do the mission and that it is available when you did.
