Aliens: Colonial Marines on Windows XP 64 Bit

It's been a long time since I've been on the boards here and I'm at a loss. A friend of mine is using Windows XP 64 Bit and just got the game however it says she has to upgrade to Service Pack 3. There is no SP3 for 64 Bit however. So, I went around the web and got tired of all the "Oh this game is crap" posts on forums and the like and decided it was time to come to the good place.

So here's the question:

Is there a way to play the game on Windows XP 64 Bit without upgrading to another version of Windows that has Service Pack 3?

No. Time for an upgrade. Windows 7 is great.

I was afraid of that. Well, thanks for replying. I'll let my friend know. And yes, Windows 7 is Great. I have it already.

There might be a way to force the install. I'd recommend checking the real tech support, rather than asking on game forums.

Actually, I forgot the most basic advice: try running in compatibility mode.

Go to the game's install executable, right click, and there's a tab named "Compatibility". See if there's an option to run as XP SP3. It might be labed 32 bit or as x86.

Ya you need to tell your 'friend' to upgrade to a new OS, XP's base code is what? 10 years old?

64-bit Windows XP isn't good as the 64 bit is shoehorned in.

...o_O Huh?

How would Windows XP computer that doesn't have SP3 have a compatibility mode for SP3? That makes no sense x.x;

Compatibility mode is a Vista/7/8 feature. It does not go "forward" though, only backwards. For example, Vista cannot be set to "Windows 8 mode" as it does not have the software 8 does.

ACM uses dx9 so if his copy of XP has dx9 there is a good chance it will work on his OS. It's not very demanding of a game so if he could get a demo he could see if it works or not before buying.
