Direct X 9 vs Direct X 10 in LOTRO

I was wondering if there is any difference, both in graphics and performance for LOTRO when it comes to DX 10? My computer is very powerful can handle the game with Very High graphics and AA on, that's not the problem. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance.

I'm playing it with DX10, and everything maxed, and it doesn't look all that great.
Not seen it with DX9 yet, but if its any less graphically pleasing than DX10, I'd say DX10 wins hands down.

*Performance-wise I can't really tell, I just bought this system in my local supermarket for 400, the specs are:

AMD Phenom 9650 x4 @ 2.5ghz
ATi Radeon HD4550 512mb DDR3
4GB DDR2 RAM @ 800mhz
Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

You've most probably got better than that, so you'll have no performance problems running DX9 or 10.

I had stability issues with DX10, so DX9 to me looks better than a blank screen :P

The biggest most noticable difference with dx10 is the dx10 shadows. I can't really describe it, but it changes the look of the game a lot. The shadows are unlike anything I've seen in a game, even this gen consoles don't have shadows as good as this.

If you have a good system there's no reason NOT to use dx10, so theres really no debate. There's no downgrade when you change to 10 so why not just do it?

Unfortunately, Vista 32 users have issues with DX10 and playing with textures on very high.

As Dahl said, probably the most noticeable difference is the shadows, which are more realistic. I've also heard the water looks even better than usual.

I don't know if it matters to you, but I believe they're already working on getting DX 11 into the game for those who can use it, though it may be a while.
