"Must-have" Personas?

Even though whenever I fuse him, he ends up having some of the most useless moves, I still gotta say Kohryu. Why? Because:

he's motherf******* Shenron, man.

Also I always find the four guardians (Byakko, Suzaku, Genbu, Seiryuu) useful along the way too.

Not counting Yoshi...i'd say the following:

Odin
Loki
Ishtar
Asura
Alice

now for list of refused and better/previously weak Persona:

Rakhasha
Pyro Jack
Setanta
Izanagi
White rider

My favourite is probably kohryu. Always have been intrigued by the four divine beast mythology and Kohryu is just friggin' intimidating. You party member's persona are so pansy-looking when compared to the golden dragon.

I'd say there's not really any "must-have" Personae in this game, unlike P3 (my love for Odin notwithstanding). There's a lot who are really good at their element, but that's the thing: it's really up to you what you want to focus on, and how much of the workload you want the MC to handle vs the rest of the Scoobies. Basically, figure out what you need and then fuse the Persona who does that well, whatever "that" happens to be. And considering you have 12 Persona slots total, you can have 12 completely different "that"s.

If anything, the only Personae who are technically must-have are the ones that give you Invigorates, and Cool Breeze, and very late in the game Victory Cry. And it's not even them so much as the skill itself that's must have (though some of those Personae are very good indeed).

All very good points, and I certainly agree with Cool Breeze, though I'm one of those losers who spends hours resetting on skill change days to get Victory Cry Kaiwan at level 24. Fuse that along for the rest of the game and it's broken.

Black Frost
The chick holding the baby whose name escapes me. She's Priestess. She's where I get my Mediarahan.
Trumpeter
Cu Chulainn
Tam Lin
Zaou-Gongen
Asura
Dis
Ardha
Obligatory Yoshitsune plug. Knock him for cheapness all you want, he's still undeniably good.

Ever since my Protagonist-Only run, I have to mention these swell chaps:
Slime (Resist Physical)
Ukobach (Resist Fire)
Jack Frost (Mind Charge)
Cu Sith (The only Persona that I know will give me Traesto)
Kaiwan (I personally love Spirit Drain and he's the earliest you can get it)
Mara (Absorb Physical, you know you love it)
Black Frost again for being amazing. I have had a level 63 Jack Frost carry me through several boss fights.

Call me predictable, but I don't think I've played a game in which these Personas were not at one point made. So pour moi, they are must-have.

In order of priority:

Tam Lin
Yatsufusa
Loki
Neko Shogun

Honestly, I'm someday going to downgrade a ton of Personas, make an absolutely RIDICULOUS Yatsufusa and Neko Shogun, and go through the game with them as my main lineup. Just those two.

And Tam Lin for Heaven. Dat Tri-Auto. Dem resistances.
