No bonus, no need to preorder. Get your money back and get it from a respectable company.

I'm not sure about your gamestop, but I've picked up pre-orders a week after release. This may just have been due to the fact that they had more than enough non pre-orders though.

Anyway, for one particluar game, I preordered and did not pick it up for another two months. This game came with preorder bonus which I had picked up weeks prior to, but somehow forgot to pick up the game.
As long as the game is not an Atlus game, you can pick up the game whenever, unless it comes with a preorder bonus. If you don't get the bonus before or during the time that the game is released, you will miss out.

if theres no bonus, try hard not to preorder
otherwise you manage to just give gamestop a free loan ++encourage their shady preorder practices

^ I agree with you there.

Or at least preorder from somewhere else. Amazon gets a lot of the preorder bonuses too nowadays (though I know most people won't want to wait...because it kind of defeats the purpose of pre-ordering).

How are Gamestop's reserves shady? You put down $5. That $5 gets you a copy of the game on release date. If you don't pick it up within 48 hours, and there is a copy there, that money goes towards the purchase of the game.
Real shady, imo. /rolleyes --- It's funny that people would get annoyed with a person asking a frequently asked question on gamefaqs. - KittyKatLaura12
