So.. Why did reviewers bash this but praise Geometry Wars 2 for the same thing?

"Limited Multiplayer and arsenal, only a handful of modes, SHOULDVE BEEN CALLED POWERUPUNTILLEVEL16LOLHAHA XD"

However Geometry Wars 2 gets high marks for it's "Original" and "exciting handful of modes"

Why do reviewers give scores based on popularity, not quality?

"Doesn't matter if it was a hit or not. If it has polygons Valve will put a seesaw puzzle in it."

Geometry Wars' AI and enemy spawning is much better that Powerup Forever's...

Don't get me wrong, I like Powerup Forever, but the different enemy types and how they spawn around you is much better in GeoWars.

Powerup Forever has a really cool visual style, though. And really, I like the timed modes better than the main mode. But I can see why reviewers wouldn't mark it as high as GeoWars... but I don't understand why most were THAT low.

I like this game and while in many ways easily considered a Geometry Wars Clone (you know, whomever is the top dog at the moment in a genre at the moment everybody else that comes afterwards must be a clone), it has a number of novel features.

While I like the graphical style, I kind of find the "here are mostly the same baddies but now with a different background color" annoying after a while. It also often feels like each level is pretty monotone with few exceptions.
