Pokemon Platinum FAQ: All New Moves, New Challenges, and more!

#1xtreemmasheen3k2Posted 9/15/2008 1:51:38 AM
Well, some people have been complaining about my fanboy reactions to some specific Pokemon getting some moves (I bite my thumb at all of you that did), so I've decided to make this FAQ. Hope you like it. Note: Keep in mind, this is my first FAQ, and is mostly just stuff copied and pasted (with citations) from Serebii and Smogon. Copying and pasting all used without permission, hopefully I don't get into trouble for it, but remember, MOST OF THESE WORDS AREN'T MINE, I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THEM! Please don't sue me for plagiarism.

III. NEW FORMS

A lot taken from http://serebii.net/platinum/forms.shtml, but I've added some info here and there.

Giratina
Origin Forme
Ability: Levitate
Type: Dragon/Ghost

Base Stats:
HP: 150
Attack: 120
Defense: 100
Sp. Attack: 100
Sp. Defense: 120
Speed: 90

Titular Pokemon of the game. Giratina is obtained in an area called the Torn World. In the Torn World, all Giratina are in their Origin Forme. When in the real world, they are in their Another Forme. After you have captured Giratina and defeated the Elite Four. A portal back into another part of the Torn World appears. In this part of the Torn World, you will find an Item called the Platinum Orb.

This item, when attached to Giratina, changes its form to the Origin Forme and boosts the power of Giratina's Ghost & Dragon moves. However, when you go online to connect to past games, the item temporarily disappears. This is due to incompatibility with the game. As it disappears, Giratina reverts back to its Another Forme.

New moves it can learn while in Origin Forme are Mud Slap, Spite and Outrage.

Shaymin
Sky Forme
Ability: Serene Grace
Typing: Grass/Flying

Base Stats:
HP: 100
Attack: 103
Defense: 75
Sp. Attack: 127
Sp. Defense: 75
Speed: 120

Shaymin is an event Pokémon and as such, there are special circumstances towards changing its form.

In order to get the Key Item called the Glacidia Flower from this girl in Floaroma Town, you need to have the Shaymin given away at the 11th Movie in 2008. With this Shaymin, you get the Glacidia Flower. This item is a Key Item and thus does not require attachment. However, to use it, there are a number of conditions. Firstly, it has to be in the Day, meaning from Between 7am to 8pm. Second, Shaymin cannot be Frozen.

Once used, Shaymin will stay in Sky Forme and there are only two ways to make it revert back. First, you put it in a box and it will rever once you place it in. Secondly, when the time hits 8pm, Shaymin will automatically go back from Sky Forme to Land Forme making Shaymin's Sky Forme a Daytime only Pokémon.

Move list, taken from http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45669:

1 | Growth
10 | Magical Leaf
19 | Leech Seed
28 | Quick Attack
37 | Sweet Scent
46 | Natural Gift
55 | Worry Seed
64 | Air Slash
73 | Energy Ball
82 | Sweet Kiss
91 | Leaf Storm
100| Seed Flare

Rotom

Taken from http://serebii.net/platinum/rotom.shtml

Rotom is found within the Old Chateau in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl & Platinum at Levels 15, 15 & 20 respectively. Rotom is unique in that it has the ability to possess multiple items. This is done utilising a Key Item called the Secret Key, set to be given over Mystery Gift WiFi from September 28th.

Rotom is a rather unique Pokémon in that it has multiple forms within the game. These forms are all obtained by having the Secret Key. This is given over WiFi in Japan from September 28th to November 4th. International Dates will be known upon release

Once you get the Secret Key, go to the Eterna Galactic Hideout. If you have emptied Eterna of Team Galactic, you can go to one of the rooms and use the Secret Key between a bookcase and a wall. This will open up a whole new room in the building

When you go into the room, you will see 5 different appliances on the floor. If you have Rotom with you, you can go up to any of them and select it. Once selected, Rotom will possess the appliance and thus you now have one of the new Rotom Forms. However there are a few things to note.

When you select the appliance and Rotom takes possession of it, Rotom will have the ability to learn a new attack. This is dependant on the Form that is is taking. This attack can only be kept upon this particular form. Once you change to another form, Rotom will forget that attack and learn a new one.

To change back to Rotom's normal form, all you have to do is select the area that the appliance once was and Rotom will revert. Although Rotom's stats will lower, this is the only way to get the original Rotom back. Rotom will also forget any specialized attack it had.

Rotom Forms:

Frost Rotom
Appliacne: Fridge
Attack Taught: Blizzard

Wash Rotom
Appliance: Washing Machine
Attack Taught:Hydro Pump

Cut Rotom
Appliance: Lawn Mower
Attack Taught: Leaf Storm

Heat Rotom
Appliance: Oven
Attack Taught: Overheat

Spin Rotom
Fan
Attack Taught: Air Cutter

Base Stats:

HP: 50
Attack: 65
Defense: 107
Sp. Attack: 105
Sp. Defense: 107
Speed: 86

All their typings are still Ghost/Electric and abilities Levitate.

VI. Torn World: http://serebii.net/platinum/tornworld.shtml

VII. The Battle Frontier

Info can be found here: http://serebii.net/platinum/battlefrontier.shtml

The Battle Frontier is back in Pokemon Platinum. It is now located in the Fight Area and consists of 5 facilities.

Battle Factory

Like its previous counterpart, it has you battling only with Pokémon that you rent out here. You start off with a team and go through the factory, battling other people with rental Pokémon. Once you defeat them, you have the opportunity to take one of their Pokémon in exchange for one of yours, allowing you to change your team for the better.

The battles are done in sets of 7, and as you continue your streak, the Pokémon you face will become better and your opponents stronger. For this, you really have to learn your type-matchups and the Pokémon's stat strengths and weaknesses.

The Frontier Brain will appear after your 21st and 49th wins, and you will be awarded a different medal for both those times if you beat him.

Battle Tower

Remains unchanged from Diamond and Pearl.

Battle Castle

The Battle Castle is a battle facility that works similar to the Battle Tower. However, this time you do not have your Pokémon healed after battle. Instead, you earn Castle Points which can be spent on a variety of things including healing and seeing your opponent's Pokémon. The battles are done in sets of 7 and as you progress through your streak, the Pokémon & opponents get stronger. However, your Pokemon's levels are also unrestricted.

The Frontier Brain will appear on your 21st and 49th wins.

Battle Roulette

The Battle Roulette in the south-east Corner of the Battle Frontier. It is a single or multi battle so 3 on 3 or 2 on 2. Before each battle, depending on what you spin on the wheel, you will get certain prizes that will aid you in completing your streak, or that will inflict afflictions on either yourself or your opponent

Battle Stage
The Battle Stage in the north-west corner of the Battle Frontier is unique in that, as opposed to choosing a team of Pokémon to use, you can only use one or two if you're doing Double Battles. Once in, you get to select the type of the Pokémon you wish to face. The battles are done in sets of 10 instead of 7 and as you progress through your streak, the Pokémon & opponents get stronger.

The Frontier Brain will appear on your 60th consecutive win and after you've beaten Rank 10 on the types.

The Scratch-Card Stall

The final stall offers you a new alternative to spending your Battle Points; gambling. With 1 Battle Point, you get three different scatchcards that could cause you to win up to 3 items, including berries, or you could leave with nothing. It's all up to chance

When you spend the Battle Point, you get to select 3 cards from your options on the Touch Screen. Once done, you will go in to the scratching mode. Using the stylus, you have to get three Pokémon to get the particular item that is lifted. As soon as you touch any part of any of the 9 blocks, you end up choosing that as one of your choices so touch carefully.

There is an extra Pokémon on the card, a Ditto. If you get a Ditto, it acts as a Wild-Card, transforming into any other Pokémon should you manage to get two of them. Essentially a fun way to spend 1 Battle Point, and you could get decent items out of it.

In this Restaurant, Gym Leaders & Tag battle Partners will show up and will be eager to battle you again, with many changes made from their gym lineups.

X. Elite Four Changes

http://serebii.net/platinum/elitefour.shtml

Of note, Flint now actually has a full team of Fire Pokemon thanks to Platinum's expanded Sinnoh Dex.

XI. Resort House

You can now customize your own house in the Resort Area. Details here: http://serebii.net/platinum/resorthouse.shtml

XII. Wifi Additions

http://serebii.net/platinum/wifi.shtml

Well, That's it for now. Please remember, I'm just trying to be helpful to the people on this forum and, to reiterate, take no credit for the hard work of Serebii and Smogonites.

Post to your heart's delight.

Oh crap, forgot to put in the Table of Contents into the first post. That was stupid. Whatever, I'll make a Version 2.0 of this later.
