I had that problem with Far Cry 2, installing vista service pack 1 fixed it. You can try that if it isn't already installed..

Mine crashes on startup as well.

Short specs are:
e8400 Core 2 Duo @ 3.3
2GB DDR2 800 RAM
2x 8800 GTS 512 SLI
Vista Ultimate 32bit /w Service Pack 1

Did a sweep of all drivers to check to see if I had the latest version. Ended up only have to update the Video Drivers but no success in getting the game to run.

Tried disabling SLI. No dice.

Re-Verfied game files(Got it from STEAM). No dice.

Disconnected All USB devices(Headset and 360 Controller) and tried it again. Nothing.

Checked windows update. Nothing new that I need.

Downclocked my Video cards to stock speeds. Nothing.

All thats left is to set my CPU back at stock. I'll give that a try.

i am having the exact same problem with my 8800 GT SLI setup, the game crashes to desktop once it hits the gamespy intro video.

on my other computer, with the same specs aside the graphic card which is a radeon diamond HD 4870 i am having no such issue.

sigh, these graphic cards have been a pain for awhile now, had issues with CoD4 as well, the screen would garble up into green bits and crash the whole computer.

Figures. I found my problem after reverting the settings in my Nvidia Control panel back to default. I'm gonna check back through em to see which setting kills the game so I can atleast help others that are having a similar problem.

You tried heading into the install folder and running the DXSETUP app? According to the official forums that helped some with their problems.
