We cannot make dc characters but can we make like a spiderman or iron man type character?Maybe even use the name spiderman since it is marvel and not dc.

There will probably be copyright issues with the names, but you might get away with the costumes.

Yeah, my plan had been to make 2 characters:
Phonics and Mrs. Marvelous --- How appropriate, you fight like a cow!

i don't see why DC wouldn't let someone start a character named wolverine. that's not how copyrights work. the first guy to register a name will get it. what does DC care if it bugs marvel that people are using their names?

"what does DC care if it bugs marvel that people are using their names?"
They only care about getting sued. Not about you using their name. In order to protect themselves they wont allow you to use it.

DC cares if they get sued by marvel because someone is using one of their characters names and appearance without marvel getting paid for it. that is in fact how copyright works

you could probably get away with a different spelling, or possibly the real name as long as your character is nothing like the character whos name you are using

And don't forget that Disney now owns marvel, and you just don't want to mess with Disney in any way. --- "With blood and rage of crimson red, ripped from a corpse so freshly dead, together with our hellish hate, we'll burn you all, that is your Fate!"

lol, thanks. i love when people who aren't lawyers act like they understand copyright laws. that IS NOT how it works, but thanks for trying, it was an adorable read. :P
and marvel can't sue anyone for making a wolverine in a videogame, any more than anyone could sue if you made a final fantasy character you loved or even making someone called jesus (and i'm not talking about hispanics!). your reasoning is way too simplified.
