What skill do I levcel up to be able to open treasure chests??

I'm at the beginning of the game but already I must have passed about 5 chests which I am unable to open because of 'insufficient skill'. I've checked my skills and I cannot for the life of me find the one which improves chest opening or lock picking.

I know this is a newbie question but can anyone help me? What skill do I level up to be able to open certain treasure chests??

Warriors and Mages? Never.

Rogues? I am not sure, I believe it's one of their natural abilities.. I think the "stealing" skill might improve your chances.. but do not quote me on that.

Thanks for your reply :)

So what you're saying is that not all classes have the chance to open chests?? That's pretty lame...

Anyone know WHICH class you need to be to be able to open and lockpick chests??

Rogue talent, opening mechanisms or something like that.

leliana is the first rogue type you get and the skill icon looks like a lock being picked and its called deft hands and turns into something like mechanism mastery, it also helps with disarming traps another thing ONLY rogues can do

It is in the Rogue's Talents pool

1 Deft Hands - a bonus for picking locks
2 Improved Tools - tools designed to defeat locks
3 Mechanical Expertise - encyclopedic knowledge of devices
4 Device Mastery - practice makes perfect

btw my Rogue doesn't need to use Gold cheats, i already have more gold than i can spend

Keep in mind, just because you're a rogue that doesn't mean you can open any chest you find.

The attribute that affects lockpick ability for rogues is cunning. There are skills to help amplify that ability but the initial check to see if you have the skill to open a chest is based on cunning.
