Ramifications of the Urn of Sacred Ashes *Spoilers*

#1WarRiderPosted 12/11/2009 3:52:42 PM
Essentially, I want to know what all the results are for choosing whether or not to defile the Urn.

Breakdown:

Ceremonialist Result:
Nobody leaves the party
get to kill the High Dragon if I feel so inclined
Kolgrim must die
Arl Eamon gets better!
Everyone is happy.
Redcliffe soldiers in the ending.
Champion Specialization

Sacreligious Result:
Wynne leaves, Leliana can be persuaded
Can I still kill the high dragon?
Kolgrim? Kill? No?
Arl Eamon?
Lots of sadfaces.
Reaver Soldiers in the ending?
Reaver Specialization.

Can you answer my questions?

Time for another War, eh?

I forget names, but if Kolgrim is the leader of those cultists, then you can kill him after defiling the ashes.
Arl Eamon survives just fine with the pinch of ashes, as is explained by the quest dialogue
I wasn't sad about losing Leliana until later on
I didn't get reaver soldiers in the end, but I killed them after doing what they wanted so that may be why.

You still get Redcliffe soldiers though.

I believe you take some ashes to cure the Arl, then you taint them. So the Arl ends up fine.

I'm planning to do redcliffe and taint them, then get Wynne. That way, I don't lose anybody since you can lie to Leliana about it.

You can still kill who ever you want afterwards.

I went ahead and killed them after learning the reaver skill, then killed the dragon.

So, the only significant difference between the two endings is (from a change from Ceremonialist to Sacreligious standpoint):

+Reaver Specialization
- 1 or 2 party members
No change in ending
Killing Kolgrim and the Dragon are meaningless.

Is that about the right analysis?

Champion Specialization

Sacreligious Result:

Can I still kill the high dragon? Yes, you can turn on Kolgrim right after.
Kolgrim? Kill? No? Yes, you can turn on Kolgrim right after.
Arl Eamon? he still lives: you take some ashes before you taint the urn
Lots of sadfaces.
Reaver Soldiers in the ending? No, you can ask but they actually want the blight to happen.
Reaver Specialization.

The only real point of going the bad route is to nab the not-so-good Reaver Spec.

Otherwise, just kill the jackass so you don't have to listen to red-haired chick and grandma whine.

I'd read a review that dressed this up as a 'leave the urn and heal Arl Eamon' or 'taint the urn and leave it to the darkspawn' decision that had me far more excited for it than I should have been when I actually got there and found out it was 'leave the urn and heal Arl Eamon' or 'do the crazy dragon dude's bidding because.'

I'm playing through with an elf now. So since the Chantry has been so mean to elves, I will be mean to them.

I'm going to taint the ashes and kill the brother.
