Hi guys,

I know this is an often asked question, but could you give me your opinions as to how I could improve the graphical performance in GTA 4 (new graphics card, more RAM etc...). At the moment I can only run it at the verylowest resolution and it looks awful.

This is also a bit of a surprise as I thought my system was relatively powerful.

Here's my benchmark. As you can see I'm running Vista. I also have 4GB of RAM.

Statistics
Average FPS: 37.36
Duration: 36.99 sec
CPU Usage: 95%
System memory usage: 61%
Video memory usage: 100%

Graphics Settings
Video Mode: 800 x 600 (56 Hz)
Texture Quality: Low
Render Quality: Medium
View Distance: 22
Detail Distance: 31

Hardware
Microsoft® Windows Vista" Business
Service Pack 1
Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
Video Driver version: 180.84
Audio Adapter: Lautsprecher (SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio)

CPU is a huge bottleneck for this game, E6700 isnt good enough, upgrade to a quad core, Q6600 at the very least. Also look into getting yourself a 1GB graphics card, something like a 1gb 9800gt/x, or a HD4850.

theirs something wrong you should get better performance then that. Overclock your E6700 if you can i bet you can get a good 500-800mhz overclock.

I would say a GPU upgrade would be smarter, except for this game maybe.

Hi,

Thanx for the answers.

I think the weak link in the chain is the graphics card as that is maxed out.

I could then overclock the cpu and see what benifits that brings.

I was looking at graphics cards today and was recommended both the NVIDIA EVGA e-Geforce 9800GTX + (with 1024 MB), as well as the NVIDIA N260GTX-T2D896-OC (with 896 MB)

Althought the first has more memory, the second (as I understand it) has a better/faster GPU.

What do you think is the better one to buy??

Would be grateful to hear your thoughts.

I ended up going with the NVIDIA N260GTX and the difference is incredible!!
The game now suggests a resolution of 1600 x 1200 as the ideal setting as well as putting everything else on high.
Thanks for your help.
