How to get the best performance in GTA IV

#1xerotoninePosted 6/29/2009 4:59:35 PM
Pre-Install: Make sure you have the latest updates for your hardware and OS

1) Install GTA IV

2) Install Latest Patch for GTA IV

3) Run Defraggler or a similar Defrag Utility that can defrag specific folders and target the GTA IV Folder.

4) Install Xliveless for the latest GTA IV patch (or find a no securom loader if you want to play online)

5) Enjoy awesome gameplay

Seriously, how hard is that for some people?

Does Xliveless work with the steam version? I installed it correcly but when I load the game it simply starts a new game and there is no save files that I can load. Took Xliveless out of the folder, loaded GTA and save files were back.

Xliveless works fine, it just changes the save game directory. Read this guide here for more info:

A program called CCleaner should also get you some performance gain.
There's also making sure your computer is malware free.
Latest drivers.
Essential OS services only enabled.
And of course, frequently praying to the computer Gods.

I don't see what's so hard about it. Aside from the having to register for RGSC, GTAIV is a pretty standard installation, albeit 15Gigs worth...

On a semi-related note; I get to install it again. Just bought a new dedicated "game" HDD so I can get these games off my primary/OS drive. Anyone have experience in Uninstalling/Reinstalling GTAIV? Hoping it's going to be a relatively painless procedure. :|

If you did everything right the first time you should have no problem.. I've reinstalled the game 3 times no issues.

Alright, thanks. Just wanted to make *sure* there wasn't something out-of-the-ordinary that you need to do beforehand; What with the limited installs/de-authorization thing and all. Haven't really messed with it until now and wanted to make sure it wouldn't **** itself up for whatever reason.

Btw Cody, do you know whats going on with DA's CFW for PSP? My 2000 recently broke and I sent it to a local PC shop for repairs.. I already have it CFW'd up at 4.90 when it broke and only took it recently. I bought a 3000 as a replacement while I wait for a new screen and wifi unit to come in for replacement. I heard something like that there were going to be two versions of CFW, Iso Loading, and Non Iso Loading.. Know anything about that Cody?
