How bad will it be?

This is a specs topic. My computer is not the best for gaming, I should be grateful that I have a computer and broadband, etc. How badly will it perform?

Asus P5K-E WiFi Edition motherboard
Intel Core2Duo 3.0 GHz
4.0 GB RAM
nVidia GTX 660
Using onboard for sound, studio headphones
Windows 7 64 bit
Evil Commando Laser Trackball
Prefer 1680 x 1050, will drop to 1280 x 768 or lower windowed
Won't use AA if necessary, but would like some shadows

The reason I ask is, man I have missed some gta car chasing since San Andreas. Thanks for replies.

I think you'll be alright on medium settings. Bad news about the shadows, though. They're probably the worst I've ever seen in terms of the performance hit. On a marginal system you can get by with shadows set to Low, but the effect is so bad it's laughable. Best to just disable them entirely.

What? I highly disagree with that.

Low compared to Off shadows on 1.0.0.4.

I do not believe you prefer off compared to having building shadows. Yes in low shadows, you barely have any other shadows other than building but it's better than nothing.

You'll be fine. There are many mods that will make your game run nicely while looking very decent. The game has no anti aliasing settings. Your CPU which I guess is an e8400 will be decently enough for the game. A marginal overclock to 3.6Ghz or more will yield better results.

I actually do prefer to disable shadows entirely, and it has nothing to do with building shadows, which I agree are really nice. What I hate is that low-setting car shadow. It's a fuzzy, blurry mess. It looked like I was dragging a sad, hazy old mattress under my car.

You don't need to defend this, BTW. The shadows in the Rage engine are just badly optimized. We've had decent real-time shadow effects since at least 2004. Hell, a few years ago Valve shoe-horned really nice dynamic, real-time shadows into the Source engine with virtually no performance hit at all.

Just speaking from personal experience here. I do not at ALL have a super great PC. Core2Quad @ 2.66GHz, 4GB RAM and an ATI HD4870 1GB. This could just be an ATI vs. NVidia thing, but shadows KILL framerate for me in GTA IV. I wish they didn't, but they do.

Anyway sorry to get off-topic.
