Does anyone know how exactly to unlock hard mode?

I've beaten this game around 5 times, at least once with each character on normal. It still won't unlock for some reason. Do you need to 1cc normal mode or something?

Thanks. I tried asking on the Aksys forums as well but I didn't get a response. Hopefully someone out there knows what to do to unlock it.

Sorry, still nothing. I beat the game 2 more times with benten and idaten but nothing happened. I'd really like to unlock the art gallery, since I really like the artwork for the game, but oh well. Maybe someone will eventually find out what you're supposed to do.
