Best weapon that scales with magic?
I'm in NG+ and using a +4 Crescent Falchion. Any better options available? I've just found an Uchigatana in 4-1. Is that a better option? What are the best weapons for mages, and where would I find them?
Well I have a Moon+5 Uchi and a Crescent+5 Uchi and I found the Moon gave me 5% more damage in attack power, 419 vs 400. But then again, my relevant stats are Magic 50, Str 30, Dex 36. I don't know what the stats are with lower strength or dex.
I find the Kilij a much better weapon because it is faster, has the same moveset as the falchion but has longer range. The main drawback of the Uchi is the slow R2 attack and the fact that I can usually get one more slash in with the Kilij compared to that. It makes up for it by better damage per hit of course. It's all a matter of personal taste.
Put the Uchi in your left hand, it swings near instantly.
Actually, since Wedge Antilles > Carriers, and Carriers = Instant win, then it should be Wedge Antilles > Instant win. He's just that good XD -PsionicDude
I'd go with moon over crescent any day. The minute amount of mp regen crescent offers is far from enough to be worth it-- especially in PvP.

Or if you like to play defensively Moon Winged Spear.
BUT THE BEST (most damage) hands down is the MOON GREAT SWORD.
On my magic character (Soul Level 232) it's like this:
With these stats:
Strength: 26 (need 26 strength to wield Great Sword in one hand)
1 handed Moon Great Sword +5
Physical Attack: 195 + 17
Magical Attack: 218 + 152
2 handed Moon Great Sword +5
Physical Attack: 195 + 22
Magical Attack: 218 + 152
The Kilij doesn't scale with magic though, does it? Will a fully upgraded Uchigatana be far more powerful than a +5 Crescent Falchion? Also, would it regenerate my mana (quite useful when used in conjunction with the Fragrant Ring)? The Uchigatana seems pretty slow in comparison to the Falchion- perhaps the Falchion will be my best bet?
^Right, and while you're swinging that huge ass sword I'll use my Crescent Falchion and hit you three times for around 400 damage each. With enough time to Dodge.

My character has 18 str, 16 dex, and 50 magic and my Crescent Uchi +4 outdamages my Moon Uchi +4.
but the crescent has an A in magic. moon only has a C so in the long run, crescent is better
Wrong. The A scales better with Magic, yes, BUT the Moon has a MUCH higher BASE attack value.
A Crescent's A modifier scales off of a SMALL base attack power value while a Moon's C modifier scales off of a MUCH higher base attack value.
on my magic character:
Epee Rapier has an S for a Magic modifier so it should be better than a Crescent Estoc +5 since that just has an A modifier for Magic.
Epee Rapier + 5
Physical Attack: 50 + 14
Magic Attack: 0 + 0 (Epee's S in Magic scales for it's fire damage)
Fire Attack: 80 + 144
Crescent Estoc +5
Physical Attack: 106 + 0
Magic Attack: 112 + 150
WHAT! Crescent Estoc +5 gets a +150 bonus from an A modifier and Epee Rapier +5 only gets +144 from an S modifier?
This is because the Crescent's A modifier is is based on 112 base magic attack power whereas the Epee's S modifier is based on 80 base fire attack power.
The higher the base attack power the better the overall bonus.
This is the reason why Dragon Bone Smasher +5 beats Crushing Great Sword / Great Axe +5 because the 280 base attack power, even though the B modifier to strength is much less than an S modifier to strength.
Base attack power is important to notice, very important.
