Character and World Tendency Perfect Walkthrough

#1adamPosted 9/3/2010 9:38:11 PM
Wrote this walkthrough because I had trouble getting to grips with the Tendency system in this game and it helped me understand it by putting it in words. Also, when asked on here about perfect walkthroughs, a lot of the time the Official Strategy Guide is mentioned, which I donít have and neither do many others. Maybe this could be stickied or made into a FAQ later I donít know but for now here it is!

Make sure you are not in body form; kill yourself in the Nexus if you are.

1-1 Boletarian Palace
Beat the level, and kill the boss, Phalanx. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

Nexus
When speaking to the Monumental say "Yes" to his request. This is for the Friend's Ring which we will get later.

4-1 Shrine of Storms
Collect all the items you can from most of this level (Crescent Blade, Compound Longbow etc), kill the boss Adjudicator. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

1-2 Boletarian Palace
Beat the level and kill the boss, Tower Knight. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form. You will now have Pure White World Tendency for the Boletarian Palace.

1-1 Boletarian Palace - Pure White Tendency
Bring your Ring of Herculean Strength for this. At the start of the level on the left side is a pathway down to a gate which will now be open. Go inside and clear your way through the Red phantoms and watch out for Executioner Miralda on the inside. She can get herself killed very easily and so can you if you're not careful. Kill her and loot the Masters Ring and full set of Binded armor from her. If she falls to her doom, you have to go back to the Nexus and re-enter the level to find her loot at the bottom of the pit. Also at the bottom of the pit is a full set of Brushwood Armor and a Colorless Demons Soul is found on one of the wooden beams in the pit. Fall down from a gap in the highest set of beams to land on another one below, and then walk carefully across to loot the shiny. Killing Miralda will put your Tendency back a little towards Neutral but we are done with Pure White in the Bolatarian Palace for good. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

2-1 Stonefang Mine
Beat the level and kill the boss, Armor Spider. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

2-2 Stonefang Mine
Beat the level and kill the boss, Flamelurker. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form. You will now have Pure White World Tendency for Stonefang Tunnel.

2-3 Stonefang Mine - Pure White Tendency
Enter the Fog to begin the boss battle and take the first left. The way to the Dragon Bone Smasher will be open, collect it. Kill the boss, Dragon God. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

2-2 Stonefang Mine - Pure White Tendency
Enter through the Armor Spider Archstone and find the massive pit with all the drops and wooden walkways. Halfway down is a cave of sorts where the Crystal Lizards like to hang out and Scirvir will be here with Pure White World Tendency also. Show Scirvir the Wanderer your Dragon Bone Smasher by equipping it and talking to him and he'll give you a Pure Greystone. He drops a Ronin's Ring if you kill him but you can find one in 4-2 so best to leave him alone. That is everything relating to Pure White World Tendency in Stonefang Tunnel. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

3-1 Tower of Latria
Beat the level and kill the boss, Fool's Idol. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

3-2 Tower of Latria
During this level you may find an NPC named Yurt locked in a cage. Do not open the cage for him, leave him there as he is important for our plans later not to mention he will head to the Nexus and kill off useful NPCs which you do not want to happen. Beat the level and kill the boss, Maneater. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form. You will now have Pure White World Tendency for the Tower of Latria.

3-2 Tower of Latria - Pure White Tendency
Head to the first tower where you killed the praying Dreglings to snap the chain that holds up the giant flesh. Go up the circular stairway and you'll now be able to reach the top section where you will find the Prison of Hope, 2F W Cell Key.

3-1 Tower of Latria - Pure White Tendency
Head down to the 2F West section and use the key to open Lord Rydell's Cell and collect your Dull Rat's Ring from him as reward. Don't kill Rydell, he drops nothing and doing so will also block off an area we are going to next. Head down toward the Ballista Arrow Machine, and in the area with the Prisoner Horde enemy (the big ball of bodies that flail at you) you'll see a gate has opened next to the entrance you would take to reach the ballista machine. Head in and up the stairs. There are 3 Mind Flayers in the next area which you should be careful of. Open any cell you can and collect the loot, in the last Cell you will see Lord Rydell's corpse from which you can collect a Legendary Heroes Soul and key that will open the rest of the cells on this floor. Grab the other items from the cells, which include a Rogue's set and Parrying Dagger.

4-2 Shrine of Storms
Beat the level and kill the boss, Old Hero. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form. You will now have Pure White World Tendency for the Shrine of Storms.

4-2 Shrine of Storms - Pure White Tendency
Kill the first Reaper to rid the area of enemies and jump into the hole you were kicked down once before. The body on top of the stone formation which you couldn't reach before has fallen to the ground. Collect the Magic Sword "Makoto" from it. Satsuki, now found at the start of 4-1, wants the Magic Sword "Makoto" from you and in all cases, will attack you even if you give it to him willingly. So don't kill him for now as it will mess with your Character Tendency.

4-3 Shrine of Storms
Beat the level and kill the boss, Storm King. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

5-1 Valley of Defilement
Beat the level and kill the boss, Leechmonger. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

5-2 Valley of Defilement
Beat the level and kill the boss, Dirty Colossus. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form. You will now have Pure White World Tendency for the Valley of Defilement.

5-1 Valley of Defilement - Pure White Tendency
In the area shortly after your first encounter with Diseased Rats and before the Giant Depraved, there is a new ladder. Head up and through the new path and pick up the Istarelle guarded by 3 Giant Depraved.

5-3 Valley of Defilement
Beat the level and kill the boss, Maiden Astraea. Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form.

5-3 Valley of Defilement - Pure White Tendency
In the area where you fought Maiden Astraea and her bodyguard Garl Vinland, you'll find a Black Phantom version of Garl. Kill him and loot the Crest of Vinland and his weapon, the Bramd.

5-2 Valley of Defilement - Pure White Tendency
Selen Vinland will appear on a small island found soon after the first fog you had to pass through. Talk to her and then again, give her the Crest of Vinland and you will obtain a Ring of Devout Prayer as reward. If you kill her, she drops the ring and a full set of Dull Gold armor. This will mess with your Character Tendency though so don't do it unless you know what you're doing.

Ok we are done with Pure White World Tendency for each world. Now we are going to go for Pure Black World Tendency followed by Pure White Character Tendency. Now something you need to be aware of: When a world has Pure Black Tendency, Primevil Demons will appear, not just Black Phantom NPCs. These Primevil Demons can drop super rare Colorless Demon's Souls used for upgrading weapons and you might very well need them if you're doing a lot of upgrading. Be warned that killing a Primevil Demon and then leaving the level will move your World Tendency towards White and all Black Phantom NPCs will disappear until Pure Black is achieved again in that world. If you are going for the Primevil Demon's, make sure you kill the target Black Phantom NPC in the same session without going back to the Nexus.

1-3 Boletarian Palace
Beat the level and kill the boss, Penetrator. Now that you're in body form, kill yourself within this level, not the Nexus. This lowers your World Tendency for this area towards Black. When placed back at the Archstone, use it to go back to the Nexus to trigger the World Tendency change. Head back into the level, use a Stone of Ephemeral Eyes to get back to body form and kill yourself again, then jump back to the Nexus to trigger the change in World Tendency once again. Do this approximately 6 or 7 times to make the area Pure Black. If you're not sure if it's Pure Black yet, just go check to see if the Black Phantoms have spawned yet. Don't waste any Ephemeral Eyes!

Boletarian Palace
Black Phantom: Miralda the Executioner. Found at the start of the 1-1 unlockable area, in the same place she was at in body form. Recommend Unequipping Thief's Ring and making her come out of her tower or risk her falling to her death which the game wont give you credit for. She drops a Guillotine Axe. Character Tendency is an instant, so check your Tendency Status to see the change.
Primevil Demon: In 1-3, Head past the area with 2 Fat Officials and its on a platform with 2 Bolatarian Archers.

Stonefang Mine
Achieve Pure Black World Tendency for this area by repeatedly killing yourself in Body form and then hopping back to the Nexus each time.
Black Phantom: Scirvir the Wanderer. In 2-2, halfway down the Giant Pit and in the cave where you found him in body form. Drops a Talisman of Beasts. Check Character Tendency change again, should start going white/blue ish around now.
Primevil Demon: In 2-1, outside where the rocks are being thrown from above at the bottom of the elevator.

Tower of Latria
Achieve Pure Black World Tendency for this area by repeatedly killing yourself in Body form and then hopping back to the Nexus each time.
Black Phantom: Lord Rydell is outside his Cell in 3-1, where you found him in body form. Drops a Phosphorescent Pole. More character Tendency change.
Primeveil Demon: In 3-2, down a dead end where you found a Ring of Disease Resistance previously.

Shrine of Storms
Achieve Pure Black World Tendency for this area by repeatedly killing yourself in Body form and then hopping back to the Nexus each time.
Black Phantom: Satsuki, at the start of 4-1. He will attack you immediately upon entering the level so be prepared. Drops Hiltless when killed. More character Tendency change.
Primeveil Demon: In 4-2, head to the first Reaper room and clear it out. Head up the left stairway from the bottom floor and attack the wall to reveal a hidden area. Make your way past the Dual Katana Skeleton and along the cliff to find it.

Valley of Defilement
Achieve Pure Black World Tendency for this area by repeatedly killing yourself in Body form and then hopping back to the Nexus each time.
Black Phantom: Selen Vinland in 5-2, on her little island found shortly after where the first Fog gate was located. Drops Blind when killed. This will grant you Pure White Character Tendency.
Primeveil Demon: In 5-2, in the dead end swamp just past the bees that guard the way up to the huge Slug nest that you can attack.

Nexus - Pure White Character Tendency
You will have Pure White Character Tendency if you have killed the Black Phantoms listed above in each world. Head all the way up to find the Monumental that you spoke with once before. Look for the candle if you can't find him. Speak to him to get the Friend's Ring.

Now it's time to get Pure Black Character Tendency. This works the oposite way of getting White Character Tendency, you have to kill people who are in body form. This includes Players in worlds you invade and NPCs found throughout the game. It wont take many kills to reach Pure Black Character Tendency and there are some NPCs you can kill without much consequence:

Dregling Merchant (1-1, 1-2, 1-3)
Filthy Man (2-1, 2-2)
Once Royal Mistress (3-1)
Graverobber Blige (4-1, 4-2)
Filthy Woman (5-1, 5-2)
Crestfallen Warrior (Nexus)
Acolyte of God (Nexus)
Worshipper of God (Nexus)
Frekeís Apprentice (Nexus)

Make sure you have what you need from these NPCs before killing them. Now to the next step which you may want to delay until you are ready to finish the game and move onto the next playthrough: Putting the Black Character Tendency to work.
Remember Yurt in 3-2? The guy with heavy black armor locked in a cage. He is linked with Mephistopheles, in that Yurt is her accomplice. Together they hunt down users of the Soul Arts and kill them. If you rescue Yurt, he turns up in the Nexus and proceeds to kill NPCs that you need alive. So our goal is to head to 3-2 and open up his cage, and then kill him. He drops a full set of Gloom armor. Killing Yurt makes Mephistopheles appear in the Nexus so long as you still have Pure Black Character Tendency, where she needs a new accomplice (you).

Mephistopheles will assign you targets to assassinate and give you rewards for each successful assassination. Here's a list of targets she requests killed and the reward:

Saint Urbain, Worshipper of God and Acolyte of God (Stone of Ephemeral Eyes)
Sage Freke and his apprentice (Stone of Ephemeral Eyes)
Patches, the Hyena (Colorless Demon's Soul)
Biorr of the Twin Fangs (Colorless Demon's Soul)
Ostrava of Boletaria (Talisman of Beasts)
Yuria, the Witch (Foe's Ring)

These are fairly important NPCs for most players so make sure you've thought things through before killing them as they are gone for the rest of this playthrough. Once you pick up the Foe's Ring, you're done with all World and Character Tendency events. Congratulations!

I don't understand the rationale behind going to some of those worlds first. For example, 4-1 is one of the most difficult levels for beginners and you should definitely do at least 1-2, 2-1, and 3-1 first as they are much easier. You are also suggesting to go to 2-2 early on, which is also one of the hardest levels in the game, especially the boss.

Also, you don't have to say "Kill yourself in the Nexus to get back to Soul form" every time. You can just add it at the beginning of the guide as a "NOTE:" or "IMPORTANT:". Besides, you don't even need to be in Soul Form to get PWWT anyway.

Other than that, good job.

Well the guide is aimed for begginers who don't understand how complex the tendency system can be, so I think it is necesary to mention every time they need to kill themselves in the Nexus. As for being in Soul Form for PWWT, it like that so that if people follow the guide exactly then they will all be on the same tendency levels I was when writing it. What if they didn't kill themselves and then they died in body form during one of the levels...

World order is all down to preference IMO, I found with a little playing around in 4-1 it became quite easy. There is good loot early on for begginers found in that world and the Souls for killing enemies there will give you a nice start.

And be sure not to enter online if you are following this guide. Online will already have white world tendency (not pure white), and that will make this guide confusing. Reader beware!

Have you considered submitting this as a faq as eventually it is surely to get buried on the main board.

not needing to be in soul form?... what are you invincible?... you need to be in soul form, unless youre just that. its easy to do pwwt and pbwt and pwct to pbct, especially the latter. i dont see why you would need a guide to do it, especially when you cant account for what the player can and can not do well. best advice for pwwt is to go online first... then quitting game, signing out and killing one or two bosses... presto pwwt via the online wt average. stay offline and do the wt events and go back online when working out the ct events... which basically amounts to a few items and 2 rings.

Killing Phalanx and Tower Knight only gives you a 60% increase in WT. You need 90% for Miralda to appear. In singleplayer, you'll have to kill the Blue Dragon in 1-2 if you want to access the execution grounds before killing Penetrator.
