Combining Runes

I have looked around, but I can not find any guides or info on what runes combine to make what? Does anyone know stuff about this?

Not sure how it works now, but it used to be two runes => one of the same tier, five runes => one of the higher tier.

2 of the same tier runes = 1 new random rune of the same tier
5 of the same tier runes = 1 new random rune that's 1 tier higher

considering the prices of runes.
tier 1 = 15 ip for the cheapest runes
tier 2 = 80 ip for the cheapest runes
tier 3 = 205 ip for the cheapest runes

the most expensive runes can be up to 10 times the cheapest rune of the same tier.

doing some simple math:
5 x 15 = 75 ip for random tier 2 rune.
5 x 80 = 400 ip for random tier 3 rune (costs 25 ip less if the tier 2 runes you used to combine were made from tier 1 runes. not cheaper than the cheapest tier 3 rune, but for a chance to get a rune that would otherwise cost 800, 1000, or 2000 ip)

essentially, you can buy 25 tier 1 runes for a random tier 3 rune.

runes are priced to reflect their utility. that being said, the more expensive runes aren't always better than the cheaper runes of the same tier, depending on your build. most are 2x or 4x the cheapest runes. runes that scale with level are often cheaper than the one's that give a flat bonus. quintessences are more expensive.

I don't really have a build for specific champion roles, so i went crit% for marks, dodge% for seals, and cooldown reduction for glyphs.

so if you combine runes the outcome is random?
eg: If i combine 5 tier 1 crit% runes there is no garuntee that i will get a tier 2 crit rune?

Yeah, it's random.

It's not really worthwhile to try and get a particular rune. Just use it to combine runes you've outleveled and dont use and hope you get lucky.
