I keep hearing he's not very good...

But I keep getting this inexplicable urge to play Cho'goth.

Whoever told you Cho'Gath isn't good is wrong.

Cho'Gath is a great tank that does need any HP due to ultimate, or a nice bulky mage with good AP ratios for all spells plus an ultimate that ignores Magic Resistance.

I'm not a fan of him, but there's much worse champions in my opinion.

His stun is hard to land with the horrible range that anyone with eyes can see.
Hes just a meatshield, get bloodrazor watch as his hp fall.

Cho'gath is my favorite character... the main problem is that right now his feast (his ultimate) is bugged. I would recommend waiting until they fix it because it's really central to his character and if you can't feast someone during a team fight (and this happens quite often now) you become half as useful.

He is great fun though:
1.) Huge health pool, unless they build madred's you will almost never die
2.) Vorpal spikes make mincemeat of even the largest of minion waves
3.) Feast is an amazing move which can be exploited to get buffs faster or simply take a huge chunk of health out of someone
4.) AOE silence- they will hate you during team fights
5.) AOE knockup and slow- they will hate you during all stages of the game
6.) Regains health and mana after every minion kill. You will outlane almost any other characters except like Shen and Soraka

I still find Shen much more useful than Cho. I find that when I lane against Cho, it's easy to bring his HP down as long as you are able to avoid his AOE, which isn't that hard to avoid.

1. He's not a tank. He's a mage with high health.
2. I think he's underestimated w/ feral scream and all. In all the builds I've seen, people haev built feral last, but I think as a caster, he should get vorpal spikes last. Feral is pretty epic in Cho's Q>W>R combo, and works really well with a lane partner early game. I've had tons of squishies rage early game thanks to this.

He's more a tank than he is a mage. His abilities aren't really meant to do high damage though they can if you stack ap/magic pen.
