Basically stuns, nukes, etc. Controls the crowds of champs

Not nukes. Those are nukes.

Stuns, slows, fears, juggles, and to lesser extent knockbacks and silences could be considered crowd control.

You forgot taunts ands juggles are better refered to Knock-Ups.

Just to be totally clear.

Hard CC
Stun (Sion's Gaze), Fears (Fiddlestick's Terrorify), Knock Ups (Blitzcrank's Power Fist), and Taunts (Rammus's Puncturing Taunt)
These CC disallow you to do anything.

Soft CC
Snares (Ashe's Frost shot), Roots (Morgana's Dark Bind), Knockbacks (Janna's Monsoon), Silence (Garen's Decisive Strike) and Blinds (Teemo's Blinding Dart)
These CC impair the enemy in some form, but they can still do some form of action.

Note that CC, although standing for crowd control, can be single target.
No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.
