What are your tips for getting from platinum to diamond? I'm hovering over 1950s atm...

Play what's strong. I know it seems beaten hard into people's heads right now but learn Kat, Eve, Vlad, Jayce, Darius, etc.

I don't particularly enjoy playing these champs but they are way too strong to pass up at the moment.
