how noobish is it to start with a dolan's ring/blade

boots+3 seems much better than starting with dolans. Dolans isn't bad as a first buy though

It's generally pretty bad. If you're going for a kill lane with a duo queue friend it might be acceptable. Still not that great though.

I've been messing around with things like Pendant+1 or Null-Magic+2, but I wouldn't want to have 0 pots AND no mobility.

If you're laning with a Soraka for instance, you can start Blade.

I think you're really only supposed to start Doran's with a sustain support, or if you're a sustained jungler.
