Having taken another look at the thread, it turns out the fork range is 300 as per the most recent red reply. That isn't anywhere near one's autoattack range, especially if it turns out that the 300 measured in ability range which seems likely to me.

ah i see. the red post i saw said it was the same as autoattack range. 300 seems much more likely to me as well.

They don't have to be within 300 units of you, but within 300 units of who you're attacking.
