My friend says Malzahar can farm better than Karthus.

Depends.
If the Malzahar is very, very good, he can match Karthus farm (assuming average Karthus)
If the Karthus sucks, he can farm better if he is decent.

Drop a Void Clap on a minion, Null Zone and then the wave farms itself. Whereas with Karthus, you can miss skittles...

But no, Defile tips it in Karthus's favour.

Well, after a certain point, Malz can just drop a spell or two (or all three if need be) then walk away and he'll have an entire wave. So I guess he has it easier in that he doesn't have to actually sit on top of the wave and he's probably less mana intensive. Karthus has the edge at level 1 with Lay Waste, and he gets braindead easy too (and mana becomes much less of an issue as the game goes on).

So, Malz is a very strong farmer. Weaker than Karthus right off the bat, potentially better mid-late (but honestly, there's very little difference in the later stages).

This

At a certain point, Malz can just drop a couple spells, then walk away to farm Wraiths/Wolves while the lane farms itself.

Actually, since Wedge Antilles > Carriers, and Carriers = Instant win, then it should be Wedge Antilles > Instant win. He's just that good XD -PsionicDude
