Not for the laning phase, more so for teamfights and team comps.

That's assuming you can make it through laning without feeding Kat/Diana, you can't stop them from roaming either so it would be difficult to say the least.

It comes down to jungle presence. And not substantially falling behind before 6 and grabbing first blue. Once gragas is 6 and has blue, Kat literally can't dont anything to him unless Gragas plays too passive and gets poked by Q. He roams just as hard especiallly with blue, and push lane faster than Kat. Against Diana, it'd turn into a farm lane, because both are pretty beefy and can survive each others tower dives. The only thing that would change this is jungler presence or who gets poked down more by harass.

Note this isn't Solo Q either. A lot of early things are done to relieve pressure from the jungler early on. Mainly the early Wraith ward everyone literally has been doing.

Yah clearly you've never played both champions because other than Ahri's R good luck hitting more than one person with her spells in tower siege. If you're hitting more than 1-2 with her Q I'm more impressed than you dealing more damage from a distance with Diana, lolol.

Whatta joke. Lemme guess that's why we see so many Ahris in competitive play instead of Dianas? OH WAIT

Hitting multiple people with Ahri's LINE skillshot is much easier to do than with Diana's Curved line skillshot. Especially since Ahri gets two gos of it, one of which is doing true damage.

In fights Ahri's Q W and R are all AoE damage, rarely is her W single target in that situation. Plus she ults 3 times. Ahri's Q is also 50 base damage higher than Diana's, plus the fact that it has partial true damage more than makes up for the 4% less in AP ratio.

And yeah there have been way more Ahris in competitive play than Dianas.

Anyways the fact that she is still majority single target damage still holds her back.

And don't forget that her bonus burst is based upon landing her Q. Which is never a guarantee. Even if you have perfect aim people can still flash/dash/blink it.

What happens when the teamfight starts and the target(s) your Q was aiming for evade it? Risk using your ult now and put it on CD or spend time twiddling your thumbs trying not to die while you wait for Q to come up?

You keep bringing up burst. Stop worrying about her burst. Q if you have an easy shot, R onto a carry, press W, E another couple champs, Q everyone you vacuumed then get as many people as you can with your passive (which is AoE and easy to get multiple people with as you practice her more). Hourglass to remove the focus you're drawing and buy some time for your CD's. You have just done a serious amount of damage and disruption while also soaking up a lot of damage.

Everyone keeps building and playing Diana like an assassin. As soon as people realize she's better off played like Irelia or another bruiser, you'll realize she brings MUCH more to a team in every way when played like this. Yeah there are team comps that building/playing her as an assassin will work, but she is so much more effective in general when you play her like a tanky top laner, albeit using your kit to destroy mid and start snowballing early.

Edit: All I can really say is try it. Yeah burst and Nashor's and all kinds of stuff sounds like it synergizes with her so well blah blah blah. But she has more than enough burst even without building a Dcap until your 3rd or 4th item after boots. So if you're really concerned about her burst, it will still be there. Her passive is her biggest source of damage late game and the best way to maximize that source or damage is to stay alive as long as possible in the very middle of fights.

2 things:

1. That's a pretty ideal situation you're talking about there.

2. I wasn't saying bruiser Diana is bad. I was just talking about how she is not OP and that building those items does not eliminate all of her weaknesses.

I like a bruiser-y Diana build too, though I opt out of RoA because I don't like it on her. I lean towards Abyssal/Rylai's/Zhonya's.

I'm a mediocre Kat, but I think I could beat Gragas 99% of the time. Kat should absolutely OWN Gragas.

I'm not saying he'll stomp her, but he can hold his own.

I don't think there's currently a mid out there that can "beat" Kat in her current state assuming both parties are played well. Not without jungle help.
