season three support build

Confused on what's good on new supports? I did a lot of thinking last night and came up with this.

grab explorer in masteries, free ward is very nice for build. idc what you do with the rest of the points but I like 0-9-21, may experiment with a bit more.

standard support runes, which for me is mpen reds, flat armor yellows, flat mr blues, and flat hp quints, but these didn't change too much.

1. start ward + mana manipulater (the cost reduction in mm makes it a viable level 1 item now)

2. try to get sight stone on first back, this is by far the most cost effective gold item in the game. Plan on selling it when you run out of space, but not before that. Feel 100% free to supplement ur free wards with bought wards, but use the free wards first, cuz they free. Don't bother upgrading it unless you want to trade late game map coverage for 300 HP by never selling sightstone (not nessesaraly a bad idea for bruisers, since stats > no stats, but this is a support build), it's just not a good idea since by the time you can afford it, your pretty close to the point of selling it.

3. grab a kages and philo stone for max gold generation

4. upgrade kages into shard of true ice. It helps immensely in making jungle ganks successful(use on jungler) or helping to peel for ur ADC(use on urself and dance around chasing enemy). Oh, and it keeps it's GP10 passive, and it has a very low recipe cost, making it super affordable during lane phase. Oh, and it keeps the mana manipulater passive too, so hooray sustain!

5. build Aeigis, teamfights gonna be happening soon and this item is important for that.

6. upgrade to runic bulwark for more stats

7. now that you are probably winning teamfights by now, start building banner of command for split pushing. Promote is extremely helpful because each time you back, promote a cannon minion (that's not going towards your team), and then go into a diffrent lane(the one ur team's in). You are now pushing two lanes at once without really trying.

8. upgrade philo stone to shurylias

9. you now have full build, leave last slot open for wards/oracles. Win teamfights with a combination of damage, tankyness, and sheer utility, because you are a support who can do anything.

P.S. Feel free to upgrade philo stone sooner if you're getting fed (with assists, stealing kills is still bad folks) and/or you really like shurylias. Just note that you won't have quite as much gold in the long run

huh, discard sightstone? I'd been upgrading mine to ruby sightstone and using it. Then again, I'm not sure it sounds like you're describing something a Sona support would use anyway. Or at least, no guide I've seen has ever suggested that much AP, if any.

Currently using this. Mistake? I will note that the item build seems identical to the one in the Lulu guide fro S3, so seems generally aimed at supports.

I suppose I should probably update this signature soon.

Oh yeah, boots... uhhh I'd say that depends, boots one are rather cheap, so buy them when you have money for them, get them when you can. upgrade to boots two after philo and kages (if you somehow don't have boots one by then, then grab that too). As for upgrades, whatever floats your boat really. A lot of people here like homegaurd, Distortion also looks good if you're carrying flash-teleport or something. Captain is good if you really want to drive the whole split pushing thing home. Alcarity if you hate all the other options.

Depends really, do you want to save money and have 300 more hp? Or do you want more map coverage? Late game you are frequently the only source of wards, so seriously think about it. It also makes it more difficult to buy oracles because with green wards, they disappear from ur inventory, allowing you to pick up an oracles, use it, then grab wards. With sight stone, if you want an oracles, you have to sell the sightstone, grab the oracles, and either use reg wards or buy another sightstone. Not rlly worth it late game imo.

*edit*

oh and no guide suggested AP on sona cuz AP was never viable until now on Sona, you never had the gold to build damage AND be tanky, but now you do thanks to new options with kage and more AP options in general. Try it out.
