An unconventional start on Lanewick. 2-0 so far.

Hello GFAQs! Warwick has ever been an odd champion in the opinions of all our "pro" players here. It's generally believed that he's a bad jungler because people think he's useless pre-6. He's considered babby's first jungler, so once people 'graduate' from him, they rarely go back.

Several months ago, it was brought to people's attentions that Lanewick was wickedly good. Because of his high sustain and dueling prowess, he didn't really have too many bad matchups. The only wah he could really "lose" lane was if he got banked while his opponent had ignite up. Sadly he suffered a small nerf and people forgot about him forever. Largely because of the fact that WW is very mana starved and can easily be bullied into farming at turret once he's out of Qs.

But I had a small revelation the other day playing Jungle WW. (I was upagainst someone that had cclaimed to be an 1800 smurf in the previous lobby. Turned out he was lying, but I wanted a safe jungler just in case he tried to counter jungle.) Our support Janna has bought that Shard of True Ice and put it on me right before I ulted into a fight. It was nice. So I looked at the item and realized, I could just buy that myself and always have an AoE initiation as a tanky bruiser!

Here's the digs. You go up top lane, and start the game with a Mana Manipulator. That's right. In S2. This would have been an atrociously dumb idea. In S3, it means WW always has mana, and therefore always has health.

But wait, there's more! Masteries you go 9/21/0. Get attack speed in offensive, but get the Magic Penetration. Not physical. This means thatwhen you get your Kages Pick and following Shard, your Q's are eating CHUNKS out of your opponent.

GP/10 item as a first major item? Sounds old school, I know. One of WW's biggest problems is lack of CC outside his ult . You're getting a big AoE slow that can help you chase until your E passive activates, or escape a gank. Weakness covered. This item would be worth it even without the gold passive. But you get that too, making your incredibly safe farming champion even more gold efficient.

After you finish the Shard, boots and Bilgewater Cutlass are your next goal. Vamp Scepter plus all of WW's natural sustain? Yes please. Is BotRK good on WW? Absolutely.

Note, against an AP top, you may still prefer to build Wit's End first, as per old WW. Otherwise, BotRK is better in almost every case. More sustain. More damage. And the most important facet of that, you get MIXED damage! One of the reasons why Jax is one of the deadliest top champs is because you can't itemize resistances against him. WW is similar. Now yes, MR does hurt him a bit more than it hurts Jax, but all of WW's damage still comes through auto attacks, making the AD on BotRK amazingly hard to deal with.

After this point, you should be leaving landing phase and getting g standard items. Spirit Visage and Wits do wonders. Frozen Heart does wonders (still have yet to test IBG. Will get to that eventually.) At the end of your build, you can sell the Ice Shard to get something tankier for yourself.

The big benefit of this is that it's actually a pretty cheap build, especially with you getting extra goals from Lucky Pick. Both games I played I got to near full build without being extraordinarily fed.

WW doesn't have very many bad matchups. The two games I've tested this out in so far were against Kayle and Riven (pre nerfed Riven even!). In both games, I had no opposition in staying healthy and farming. As soon as I got Bilgewater in both games, they both learned they couldn't trade with me. Victories in lane and game both times.

Needs more testing, but try it! It's good!

IBG sounds like it would be pretty good for him. Catch up to people with your E passive, then they never get away once you start Qing them to death

But yeah I do like the idea of building Shard on him. Seems to help round out the issues he has as a champion.

Build Shard of True Ice first to solve WW mana problems and sticking problems. (Starting game with Mana Manipulator.)

Build BotRK for good mid game mixed damage.

Continue to build as per situation because you've been indomitable in Top Lane.

Or you could just buy a tear and build into sunfire spirit visage and not get raped by 99.99% of good top laners for starting with a mana manip which any blind fool could take advantage of.

Explain how starting with Mana Mip is terribly worse than starting boots pots or anything else? Having Q up MUCH more frequently is allowing you to stay in lane much longer and much healthier for the time being as pots would allow you.

The only "better" alternative I see is a flask pots start, but at that point, all that money spent on pots is redundant and useless compared to the absolutely free sustain of regen.
