The Official Definitive Guide to Item Builds as an AD Carry

#1AphoristicPosted 12/31/2012 9:27:28 PM(edited)
Build A (Standard AD Carry such as Graves):
Starting Items:
-Flask
-5 Red Potions
-2 Blue Potions
If you have never tried this starting build go do it right now. You effectively have an extra 1050 health and 320 mana. This allows you to stay in lane longer than any other build, which means you will be getting your BF Sword faster than your opponent.

First Back:
-BF Sword
-Boots of Speed
-More Potions/Wards as needed
This is an ideal first back, you want to be able to get that BF Sword along with your tier one boots. This allows you to be a monster in lane, regardless of the opponent. You deal damage and have the ability to stick on almost anyone long enough to get a kill now.

First Big Item:
If you are winning: The Bloodthirster
This allows you to snowball as you already have a completed item significantly faster than your opponent.
If you are losing: Infinity Edge
You need to shoot for being that power house late game if you lost the early. The only way to do that is to go for that Infinity Edge. Anything else will put you behind.

Second Big Item:
If you are winning: Statikk Shiv
If you are losing: Phantom Dancer
Basically, you are going to want one of these two items after your BF item. Statikk Shiv is cheaper, and it allows you to continue that snowball as you get it faster. Phantom Dancer is better for the late game, playing catchup build.

End Game Items (all situational, read to know when to get them):
-Infinity Edge
If you didn't get it already, you need it now. You are ahead, and you have to keep it that way.

-The Bloodthirster
Need more damage and you didn't get this earlier? Buy.

-Last Whisper
Is there a Taric on the other team? Do you need to fill your 6th item slot? Does the enemy team have a significant amount of armor? If you said yes to any of these, get this item.

-Phantom Dancer/Statikk Shiv
If you don't feel that you need a defensive item, it's not a bad call to get the one of these you didn't get earlier.

-Guardian Angel
If you are your team's only damage, get this so you can keep alive to murder the other team.

-Mercurial Scimitar
If there is any significant CC on the other team that you cannot avoid such as Warwick Ultimate, Malzahar Ultimate, or anything else that will be targeted onto you, get this to keep alive.

Build 2 (Ezreal and Corki):
First Back:
Phage (Replaces BF Sword early)

First Big Item:
Trinity Force (Replaces Phantom Dancer/Statikk Shiv and moves your BF item to second big purchase.)

Currently, Iceborn Gauntlet is OP and should be on every Ezreal. This post will assume playing after the nerfs happen.

Build III (Alternative Starting Items):
Starting Items:
-Long Sword
-2 Red Potions

First Back:
Vamp Scepter
You get this for sustain instead of the flask.

Build Four (Vayne):
You can build anything on Vayne and still do damage.

Boot Enchantment:
-Furor
Get this once you have 650 gold after any of your big items.

List of things to Avoid/Be cautious buying:
Doran's Blade
Got overnerfed, it's trash to get now. You get an early advantage that disappears very fast, and you can't sell them back for as much now.

Early Vamp Scepter if you have Flask
You have Flask for sustain, silly.

Hurricane and Blade of the Ruined King
These are on hit build items, not AD carry items.

Black Cleaver
Only get this as a first item if you are Miss Fortune or maybe Corki. Always rush it if you get it.

Executioner's Calling
Only if you are being destroyed by Swain/Mundo.

Everything Else
Just don't even do it, man.

If you do, then you are playing him on hit, not AD Carry.
