Why are solo queue matches rarely close?

Because teams rage, lose focus and drop communication when they get slightly behind, so the other team can more easily snowball.

in a grouped environment the weakest link is known and always calculated into compensation and estimations. In solo que you don't know who the weakest link is and if they are reliable even to follow you up.

Typical example is being a solo que jungler and ganking bot lane, your bot lane focuses their support instead of the free carry kill that you had locked up. Never ganking bot again.
