Dota2 has 5 bans instead of just 3. There are talk about changing the way bans are on LoL, but nothing really official.
LoL bans really seem outdated though, with the size of the rooster. --- Our Drunker Master picked up the only remaining improvised weapon which would work, the dwarf. Since the dwarf was lawful we now had a lawful aligned weapon.
Delayed bans means you can't target ban an entire player/team quite so easily, making it slightly more fair.
Also, a team can also strategically ban a team comp as they see it developing. Harder to make an AoE comp or a Protect the Kog comp when you see the enemy doing it and have the bans to stop them.
Though I've seen multiple League matches where the team first picks FotM like Eve/Diana/Orianna/Kha'Zix and it's basically over from that point. With the imbalance in Leagues, I feel the upfront bans are better to ensure SOME semblance of balance. --- http://i.imgur.com/ZhLrT.jpg http://i.imgur.com/H6Frl.jpg
they just had a dota2 championship? Damn, would have liked to watch to see what the game was like live in action, with pros. Oh well. --- "Perhaps it's impossible to wear an identity without becoming what you pretend to be." - Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game
Different mechanics. Dota2 has a lot of hardcounters and the matchups in lane are lot more important. This gives them more flexibility in banning a specific matchup. LoL does not have hardcounters (maybe a few exist, but these are the exception--not the rule). Banning everything at the beginning works in this context. --- "SR'ing is having the RNG abuse you."
