Can we discuss own3d and how they are treating many LoL streamers?

So he has kids, a house and whatnot, and decides to quit his job to play videogames professionally? I call that selfish and irresponsible. This is what happens. He had no security, no safety net, no nothing. .

Ummm... This is American: the land of dreams. What you described is like the situation of atleast 80% of every self-made, self-employed person.

And it's working out so well, isn't it?

But maybe I'm on the wrong board to look for any form of responsibility. I wouldn't trust 90% of you with my hamster, let alone expect you to have any form of planning, responsibility or ambition.

IIRC most of this board are undergrads, but I bet you were better in our age, amirite?

Cheese sounds really mad.

I bet people made the same argument about computers when they were first being developed that he is now.

I think he had a dream that he wanted to follow, but chickened out and went the secure, sheep way. And now he's looking back and kicking himself.

No, I'm actually pretty happy doing what I like. But I do it outside of work, seeing as I too have kids that I am responsible for and care deeply about. I would never take any sort of risk when it comes to their future. Call me whatever, won't change my opinions.

So if you were given the opportunity to

-make more money
-spend more time with your kid(s)
-do something you love

you would not take it as it would be, for some reason, irresponsible?

I pity your kids because the fact that you don't like your job and all this fear of yours will end up impacting them negatively. This coming from a guy whose father absolutely loved his job and for a time had to switch jobs (2nd job was better paying too, but not by much).

Destiny sold out to Own3d because they promised him more money when he was the most popular streamer for SC2 on twitch.tv. He screwed over his fanbase and ruined his career. I can't say he didn't deserve this. He could have stayed with twitch.

This coming on a board that is devoted to a game that is a major e-sport.

You're either new here, or some sort of poor troll or strawman. Because let me tell you, there is no such thing as job security, at least in some places. And I've had more than enough "real jobs" that screwed me over hardcore.

Yeah, he screwed himself. Doesn't mean he deserves to not get paid at all. Doesn't mean that Own3d possibly pocketing the money subscribers sent in is at all justified. I've seen you post enough negatives posts about Destiny to know you're not a fan, Grahf, but that really isn't a logical response to the topic at hand.

I mean, look at the blog:

Whether or not Destiny is a shaky entertainer and not very skilled at what he does, whether or not if he has some terribly ignorant opinions and loud mouth ideas, he's not a stupid man.

Yeah, of course I would. That is, with a serious company, under a solid contract that not just offered me 'a big bag of moneyz', but with a good pension, healthcare, job security, etc. Once you get children, you need to have man up and take responsibility. I'm sorry, but I don't dream of 'making it big' in sports/videogames/music anymore. It's helped me to avoid situations like Destiny's so far, though.

I'm a huge Destiny fan actually.

Although he's not entertaining like he used to be when he was on twitch.
