If people make what they know to be bad picks, yet feel fueled to try do to personal preference for said pick. They usually play better, until their pride is hurt in which case so many people just get mad and stop playing.

How dare you ignore the almighty Meta in favor of victory. Simply because the fools you're matched with ignore the Meta, doesn't mean you should. Prehaps you got lucky, and that is how you won without Meta.
well...
that is...
the Meta's only useful when EVERYONE is using it. It's kind of like a handicap for everyone that does, but also a handicap for those who don't. Any way you slice it, you'll be handicapped... unless you build legos, which beat the snot out of the Meta at any time, mostly due to the massive stat boosts that Legos give you, including their unique passive, which deals your AP x Mana + your HP to anyone who makes physical contact with you, and the fact that they give you 11000 HP and 500 Armor and MR, plus 90% armor shred on those you hit and + 20,000 Hp regened over .5 seconds.

This just in, picking something you are good at that doesn't necessarily fit the meta is better than something you suck at but fits the meta, especially at non-competitive levels.

it really is but if ypu rely on playing outside the meta you'll get stomped back down once you get high enough like one time when a guy locked mid after I had already locked brand I just said w/e it's not worth arguing over and played as the support we completely stomped them and forced a surrender but that wouldn't fly in higher elos

In higher elos stuff like that doesn't really happen though.

WAIT, sorry, yes it does, but at that stage you should be good enough to adapt to the situation.
