Any advice on how to play Solo top Shyvana?

Since Shyvana's jungle seems a little lack luster nowadays, anyone have advice on playing solo top shyvana? I'm just wondering so I can try it this free week to see if she'd be worth getting.

You just build tanky, push hard, and counter jungle the enemy as much as you can really.

I'll admit I'm not a great player and fairly new to the game, but I've been playing her a ton this week, and I've had about as little luck with solo-ing her top as about anything else I've tried (even jungling). She works fine top if you have pretty much anything with you. I've even had quite a bit of success solo-ing mid by picking up E first and using it to snipe the competition there.

I've played against a couple people who tried to do it...
I don't know if it was just the player, or if it was just Shyvana's subpar health/defense at the start of the game, but it didn't work out well.
