People who call formatting/re-installing OS a 'fix' or repair need to be shot in the head.

'Hey your puppy had a broken leg so we shot him in the head and bought you a new one.'

I avoid the Geek Squad (and Best Buy warranty guarantees) like the plague. Also I guess this is the hard way to learn to invest in an external HD.

Oh god I cinged when I saw that desktop.
I had geeksquad "install" for me new ram and my computer wouldnt boot up. They blamed it on me dling stuff when I just bought the comp 2 days before and only downloaded chrome, league, and microsoft word... after 2 weeks I finally got my comp back and using its original ram...

USB flash drive. Buy one. There's no reason anyone shouldn't have all of their important data backed onto a USB flash drive so they can take it anywhere.

Most people who have problems with their computer... it's their fault.

If formatting/reinstalling is that much of a problem for you... you probably shouldn't have a computer.

most "repair" places actually start by restoring to factory settings. It's like taking a MOAB to crack a walnut.
