People who call formatting/re-installing OS a 'fix' or repair need to be shot in the head.

'Hey your puppy had a broken leg so we shot him in the head and bought you a new one.'

Most people who have problems with their computer... it's their fault.

If formatting/reinstalling is that much of a problem for you... you probably shouldn't have a computer.

And if he messed up his puppy that bad and its cheaper to buy a new puppy. that is a fix... not sure what kind of logic your using.

As someone who actually works in IT user support, Geek Squad makes me sick. You don't need any expertise or general knowledge to work there, they have a standard procedure of about 5 fixes that they use for every single problem, if those 5 things don't work they just reformat and charge you for it. It's not a real fix.

Tell your dad that you need to borrow his car then take it somewhere locally that is sketchy to get his car "tuned up" to return the favor.

Screw the analogy then.

My point is that by formatting you're not fixing what went wrong, you're starting over and hoping it doesn't happen again.

A good technician will isolate the root of the issue before considering a format. A bad technician will just format and see if the issue happens again.

A scumbag will format your pc without asking if you need backups.
