DOTA player trying out LoL, what are some things I should be aware of?

Most of my friends play this game instead of DOTA2, I've played DOTA and DOTA2 extensively, but reading guides about LoL online had me lost.

Game is updating now, what should I know before my first match?

no runes, no couriers, can teleport back to base without scrolls, no secret shops, no denying, game is more action oriented so you can spam skills more.

Having Dota experience pretty much means you only need to learn what the champs do. Everything else you can pick up through normals
